Right and what about SE's initial plan of allowing each player to have up to 7 retainers (at an extra charge)? the wards will fill up must faster than you think.Well, by the time they actually relaunch the game, I am assuming he means by PS3 Launch, we should have Ishgard by then in which case we would have a whole new city full of wards. Most likely the higher level gear will populate these wards while the new wave of players will populate the starter city wards.

When the game was released there was about 3000-4000 players per server. Before they removed the population counter that number dropped to about 500-700 per server. I'd assume its around 300-400 now and the Uldah wards are packed with each person allowed a max of 2 retainers. Say they allow 7 retainers, that makes it a possible 2800 retainers. Say at 2 retainers a person when the game gets a boost of players (assuming back up to 4000 a server) that makes it 8000 retainers. You can hardly fit a 1000 retainers in the wards as is. Moreover, if we`re speaking idealy, there will be about 10K-20K a server much like FFXI had, that is a lot of retainers.
And then UD would be bare like Grid/Limsa, so that'd be the only place to get stuff.Well, by the time they actually relaunch the game, I am assuming he means by PS3 Launch, we should have Ishgard by then in which case we would have a whole new city full of wards. Not to mention that the wards work differently than they did at the time. Everyone tossed their retainer into the first ward only because it was the first one buyers would jump into. There was no search, no specific designation for each ward, and no tax reduction for correctly placing your items in said designations.Well, by the time they actually relaunch the game, I am assuming he means by PS3 Launch, we should have Ishgard by then in which case we would have a whole new city full of wards. So then what is the point of all the hassle of placing your retainer in the "correct" ward (although there is no correct word really considering most people sell different kinds of stuff) and the hassle of running from ward to ward to ward when you can have the exact same functionality at an "AH counter". Don't think of the AH is the same sense it was in FFXI, think of it as the market wards bundled up. There isn't one good excuse for the wards and never has been. The only extra thing about them is impulse shopping but that alone doesn't warrant having them over a counter with more convenience. I'm sure they can find some better use for your retainers.Not to mention that the wards work differently than they did at the time. I don't find any part of the wards system to be a hassle. Also I think the wards are much nicer and more pleasant than walking up to a counter for extra convenience. If I wanted extra convenience I would bot. Just because something takes a little time doesn't mean its worthless. It would also be more convenient if we all started as r50.So then what is the point of all the hassle of placing your retainer in the "correct" ward (although there is no correct word really considering most people sell different kinds of stuff) and the hassle of running from ward to ward to ward when you can have the exact same functionality at an "AH counter". This is just a blindly ridiculous self serving statement, but I love how you follow it up with one good excuse.There isn't one good excuse for the wards and never has been
NO to AHThe only extra thing about them is impulse shopping
update: another good excuse for wards:

<cool FFXIV image here>
I say NO to FFXI style AH.
However..
A REAL Auction House (eg FFVI, FFIX) where players could put elite items up for bidding would be a fantastic addition. Have an auctioneer as well~
BTW, the OP should use a dev tag for this thread.
To me, this debate really boils down to one thing. Instantly getting your junk vs. having to zone to get your junk. The current incarnation of wards function just like a traditional AH, in my opinion, albeit not as fast as some might prefer and there still needs to be some tweaks. (like differentiating HQ items)
