Hmmm... I would prefer the smaller zones, but wouldn't just having the world load around the character to a certain distance solve this problem pretty easily? Is their engine capable of this? I know it would be probably a large endeavor to do this if the engine is capable, but it's something I think people are willing to wait for as they fix other more important things and give us stuff to do while we wait.
Yeah, normally aren't, and I would very much love to have both. However, if that was easily possible using this game engine, I don't see why they wouldn't have done it already.
Anyway, the limitations of the two choices was more to get a clearer idea of what priorities the players have, rather than get theoretical about what is and isn't possible in an ideal game engine.
#2 if it had to be either one of those.
Variety HANDS DOWN
I could care less about "seemless" zones. I'd rather have a 2-3 second loading screen now and then (which be barely ever in some places, eg Dungeons or event areas (Sky/Sea) where you stay in a place for a while) instead of the bland nature we have now. It hurts me how dull XIV scenery is.
Well, as much as I agree with most everyone else in wanting a combination of the two, if I had to choose I'd go with #2. Loading screens (I mean really, they're not even that long...) are much preferred over miles and miles of bland scenery.
What's the point of a seamless world anyway when everyone just ports everywhere. Still have to sit through a loading screen half the time I go anywhere.
Option #2
That is...a very good point, actually.
It makes me pine for long stretches of varied and beautiful scenery that I can traverse on my custom, self-bred, crafted-armor-wearing chocobo...
*cry*
