No actions, I cancelled immediately after hitting the Synth button
Working as designed. You have to plan your use of abilities to minimize this. Use your brain!Don't know if this has been commented on before but I believe that when crafting, abilities that do not have a chance to fail(i.e. Master's Mend, Tricks of the Trade, etc) should not consume charges of abilities like Steady Hand. Just a small change that could ease small frustrations.
I have cancelled without doing anything and lost materials. Loss of materials is random; sometimes you don't lose anything.
I love when people respond to simple posts with elitist comments to make themselves feel superior. I have a brain, I use it daily. There is absolutely no reason to demean someone publicly or otherwise. Be a bigger man.
+1 to Miq2. They have made crafting an "art" gotta get the right mix so that your skills work together. Without this, every Tom, Dick, and Harry would be lvl 50.
Accidentally started a synth and tried to cancel but lost the mats. was pissed, so there should be a cancel/reclaim all mats if no actions were done. So, maybe you got luck![]()

In case there is any confusion as to whether or not you will receive your materials back after cancelling mid-synthesis, we created the following to help illustrate the various outcomes of the system.
- Cancel while preparing to craft (Haven't used any actions yet)
→All materials will be returned to your inventory.
- Cancel while in mid-craft (After performing even a single action)
→All materials will be lost. This is to ensure that you cannot cancel when it looks like you are going to fail.
- Durability reaches 0
→There is a chance that materials will be returned to your inventory at a set rate

Okay, I can understand your logic, but let me explain my logic here. While waiting for a DF que, one of the things I do to pass the time is craft. As I work, I get more and more into it. I might even find myself attempting an HQ combine with a bunch of HQ materials. And then right after I start crafting, my DF pops. Now I am in trouble. I can't cancel my crafting or you guys delete all of those valuable materials. I can't withdraw from the DF, because it could have easily been a 30+ minute wait (I waited 85 minutes once). The only other option is to hurry up and rush through the crafting process, so I can switch classes and accept the dungeon prompt. But then I might accidently use a wrong ability at the wrong time and mess myself up.
So while I understand why you did the above, the fact is, I would REALLY appreciate the ability to just cancel my combine without losing my materials, so that I can quickly take that dungeon pop.
Well, get Reclaim. It pretty much always refunds your materials if you fail so uh, that'll help with the scenario above if you have to hastily quit. Actually I don't think I've ever *not* see it return the mats. And I have to ask, why are you playing this at work?
The only time I understand the frustration of losing mats is when you lose connection mid-synth. I've been there, and I know how frustrating that is. But then nothing will stop people from force d/cing when something goes wrong to retry. Unfortunately this is one of those systems where the basest people make the rest of us suffer. Gotta worry about the lowest common denominator of personalities because they'll always be the first to take advantage of something (case in point: teleporting gatherers).
It's called "level your Culinary to 50 and take Reclaim for a non-Steady Hands affected 90% chance of getting your mats back". Or you know, don't do important craft while queuing for DF? Cancelling crafting before you use any abilities still restores your mats as Okipuit mentioned.
