Unable to complete version check. [30605][504]

Been getting this error ever since this morning for no apparent reason. (was fine last night when I played)

I tried every possible solution, like read-only, administrator fix, replacing the boot folder, restarting pc, wi-fi connection, so I finally tried a clean reinstall but I get the same error so it won't download the game.

Any ideas? I know some other people are getting this error for no reason either.
    thanks in advance.

A couple of hours ago I was in the game, playing normally. Quit to eat and rest, and now it won't get back on. Boot version check error, exactly the same described in the title:
    Unable to complete version check.

Tried pretty much everything that Durian has tried except for the reinstall (which doesn't seem to fix it).

There are no maintenances or known issues at the moment on the servers (or at least there are no notices of it on lodestone/twitter/facebook).

I don't want to believe my weekend is done a day earlier.

unable to complete version check is 99% of the time a connection problem / timeout connecting to server.
I had that a lot , and mostly i was like ftw.. my internet connection fails again lol , wich did too mostly.
may be on SE's end.. make sure you at least have allowed the ff.exe in your firewall to prevent blocking or bad connections.
Just because your internet explorer works fine and doesnt get blocked too doesn't mean the game will... something is blocking your connection for version check or causes severe lag that the check times out.. after you will get the unable to complete version check error

At this stage if you're getting the version check error(s) it's most likely as Wolf says - related to server connectivity. Having said that, there are cases where it's a permissions issue, not dissimilar to the ones discussed in other threads. In this scenario though, rather then having to run administrative privileges or set a compatibility mode, you can simply log off and back on. If that doesn't work, then it's the servers playing up.

However as a quick note in the even the above does not work, for anyone using Windows 7, check the compatibility drop down box for 'Windows 7.'
I know, how can Windows 7 have a compatibility mode for Windows 7, but on some systems it is there and will work(where as XP and Vista mode won't).
