FFXIV:ARR need to reinstall? (Upgrading from 32bit to 64bit system)

    Hi guys,
I'm planning on upgrading my motherboard and OS to Windows 8 64-bit.

Qo I need to re-install FFXIV:ARR? And does the same CD key work? (I bought mine only. CD key version only.)

    Thanks guys!

As long as you dont reinstall windows you should not have to.
I replaced my motherboard not long ago , and didnt have to reinstall anything .. nada nothing.. no FF no other programs.
Your registry stays intact , so don't worry.
if you intall another OS .. wich you plan.. then yes you need to reinstall everything new.. not only Final fantasy

P.s. your CD key is registered and linked to your account.. not to your OS , so basicaly you need to reinstall FF14 and just login with your existing account , wich then will automaticaly update ofcourse , So this should be no problem

If you are installing Windows 8 32-bit over Windows 7 Home 32-bit no. If you're installing Windows 8 64-bit over windows 7 home 32bit yes. If you're installing Windows 8 (any version) over Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate, yes.

This has more to do with the location of the files. (32bit windows puts everything in program files, while 64-bit puts 64bit software in program files and 32-bit software in program files (x86)) So it's an extreme mess to upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit versions.

If you have more than 4GB of ram you need the 64bit version and if you have 32GB of ram, you need Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8 (any version) otherwise the upper 16GB will not be used.

If you plan on going from 32-bit to 64-bit hardware and O/S, I'd recommend doing a clean install (backup what you need to keep onto an external drive, reformat the PCs drive(s), clean install of O/S and re-install all applications again). The only time an in-place upgrade of the O/S is preferable is if you don't have the installation media for an application you absolutely must preserve.

By doing this you can ensure there are no compatibility issues, broken registry paths, etc. Also, with 32-bit installs of your applications the binaries will be limited to the 32-bit address space and won't be able to take advantage of the 64-bit architecture. If a given application has a 64-bit install it will use different binaries altogether.

Depending on which windows version you have a change of motherboard you should actually re-install windows. The reason being, windows has limited integration with your bios, a new motherboard will change your bios and therefore can cause instabilities in windows. It is not a requirement, but I would definitely recommend it.

Quick note, just to save yourself some headache--backup at least your character folders (nested in a FFXIV game folder under your My Documents folders) This way you can restore macros and such if you need to reinstall the game.
