Being nice goes both ways.

Yes, it is better to be nice to players who aren't doing well in the game. They may not have anyone who has offered any advice and could end up being a great player if a 'nice' player took the time to help them out a bit.

By the same token, the person being given the advice needs to be nice too. Sure, there are some people who are berating you and not really offering help/advice, but there are some who are genuinely trying to help, it just comes across more coldly in chat. So, if you're a player receiving advice, be nice about it as well. Until you are blatantly insulted, don't assume that the person is trying to be mean.

See, being nice goes both ways. If you're being nice and providing advice but the player receiving it gets upset, you don't stop being nice to others, just realize that the person you tried to help wasn't being nice

Edit: I've just realized something, everyone should switch to a Lalafell if they want to be a nice player. Why? A Lalafell can come up to you, do just about any emote, then start giving you advice. You'll NEVER think they're doing it to be mean, because, well, they're an adorable Lalafell! Problems/miscommunications solved!

Is it OK to get a little angry when you give very clear, very concise long-drawn-out instructions to people that you know speak English and yet they still fail to follow directions? I'm not talking about EXECUTING directions I'm talking about following SIMPLE directions. Or how about when your DRG is only spamming one move over and over and over again so you then say "Hey! I notice you're using only one move you might want to try a rotation or using some other moves as well." only to see them use another move but only that other move and over and over and over again like the first time? Love those people that think "It's my newest ability! I better spam it and totally forget to use anything else ever again! ".

I have no problem taking my personal time to stop and explain every minute detail of a dungeon/instance/fight to someone but I can't fix your terrible and magically make you perform your base job duties. Make no mistake that there is a huge difference between inexperienced and ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Don't get me wrong though; I try my very hardest not to be mean to terrible players but there's only so much a man can take.

My experience when I was a newbie in Titan HM. I actually entered it with 3.1k hp because back then I had no one to guide me on the survivability requirements of Titan. I am an will always be thankful to the bunch of randoms in the party who actually took the time to advice me on the gear I should be getting, where and what to farm, the minimal HP I need to survive Titan, and why specifically that amount of hp. Now I for every Titan or dungeon I go to, I patiently explain every mechanics of that primal/dungeon at the same time advice the level of equipment needed to comfortably run through it.

Sometimes, what people read as being "not nice", may not be as it seemed at all. Some people are just very frank and straight forward, but they meant well. If one is on the receiving end of it, (insults without advice are not included, that's just plain not nice) one has to just try read the message behind it I guess.... >_<

If I failed to dodge an AoE and got damaged, I can see how it was my fault for not paying attention while healing but if I just enter the dungeon and I'm already getting torn apart (constantly insulted) because I don't have the "required" gear for AK then that is just sad. Even more so when the other two in my party are in the same boat and came in with DF.

I just want to finish my GC quest (need one AK run) without getting harassed q.q. I promise to mindlessly grind full darklight afterwards q.q

The truth is that most people don't want to learn how to fish. They just want to be handed massive boat loads of fish every second.

I queue in DF all day and tell people tips on how to improve and constantly just get told to "stfu", "keep it to yourself", or "stop whining". Vast majority of new players I come across have no respect for other players, especially those more experienced than them. They cant accept any criticism and automatically become hyperdefensive when you make one comment about what they're doing, even if they are making mistakes. Then you come on forums and read a bunch of crying posts about "why are people so mean, nobody helps me".

This is why. There are jerks on both sides of the skill spectrum, and until people start to learn how to be civil, nothing will change.

that is god's own truth however it does sound better to say honey than a big steamy pile of crap lol
