How do I install this game?

My account says I have an active copy of the game but I can't find where to download the client. Where do I get the client from? Support site is no help at all.

There is no official way to download the client as far as I know. You'll have to get a copy of the disc somehow, either from a friend or some other way.

There is not currently a legal way to download the XIV client.

You either have to go buy the game (it's $10-$20 in a lot of stores now, so consider that), or steal it from the internet people, like some kind of criminal!


I'm not sure what you mean by My account says I have an active copy of the game. If you could clarify that, I'm sure someone will be able to help you with much haste.

Buddy Key I am assuming? You will need your buddy's discs as well to install the client. Impossible to download currently unless you illegally do it; which I do not suggest.

In my Square Enix account is has a section saying Active Service and FFXIV is in it. So that means I have the game registered to my account? Or is that me being in the beta screwing up? I can't recall ever having a disk for this game!

But I must have at some point if it says Active Service. I can't download a client and find out though, pretty unacceptable for the company to not provide a digital download client for an MMO and expect us to put our systems and accounts at risk with torrents instead. Especially for customers coming back for a second look and giving it another chance. Be honest, those who uninstalled an MMO and came back to it, did you ever expect to need the disk? Did you even have it?

If I buy the disk I keep it. Download would be far more convenient, but not necessary unless you get a buddy pass online (so you can't borrow your buddy's disk) I guess.


If you were in the Beta, it might still be listed as Active. I'm not sure how they handle betas once they're over.


If you used a Buddy Pass to register that account, that gives you access to log in, but you still need the game. Borrow a friend's disk, or run to a game shop and buy XIV for $15, or do something illegal that probably will have no consequence---but you've got to install it if you want to play.

Yep! That's what happened, registered for beta 4/9, game launched later that month. The confusing Active Service in my accounts list is the beta from last year.

So even though I don't have a copy of the game disk, I can still post on the forums. And there is a character transfer option so starting to wonder if I can access the game even if I shouldn't, I think something is broken there...

Oh well, probably get banned now for not being a paying customer. =D

You might be able to log in to the character screen, but you wouldn't be able to do anything form there since you have to buy a character slot; which of course would then start charging you for the general access fee also.
