Simple question--Can a solo only character get a mount?

Yeah, I have a good idea where this conversation is eventually going...but some have asked me about certain comments I've made regarding ARR and I'm trying to back up statements I've made.

So is there a permanent mount that is available to (true) soloers?

We had the goobbue in ver 1.0--but that is no longer available in ARR even to Legacy soloers that acquired it then (unless I'm missing something).

Yeah, I'm fairly sure you can get the lvl 30 conjurer unicorn mount purely through soloing. Once obtained it's usable on all jobs/classes at lvl 1 just like the chocobo. ^^

Also to get your chocobo, it's either no dungeons, or only the initial 3 dungeons which you can easily do through dungeon finder and just never even talk to the people in your group. They are really super easy dungeons. When done through the dungeon finder they go by pretty fast, I think all 3 of them took about a total of 2 hours, maybe a little more? They go by pretty quick and really for the difficulty of them you may as well be soloing. It's basically if you're a tank, grab some mobs and do your rotation, DPS, do your rotation. If you're a healer, heal people and also do some DD. The first 3 don't offer much in the way of a challenge. If you are a DD, just blow things up and stay out of red zones the same as with soloing. If it helps, pretend the other group members are NPCs.

Aside from the mounts, the way most people travel around is with teleports anyway. The mounts get a lot less use than you would think.

And then those people come on the forums to complain about how they never have any money...

Won't help as you need the license to ride the unicorn I guess (at least you need it to ride the CE mount), so you need to get your lvl 20 personal Story done and that won't work without the 3 dungeons on lvl 15,16 and 17.

So my understanding is: You can get a mount, but you can't use it if you try to play "true solo"

Lisertan--I should have been a bit more careful about the way I worded my initial question. Thanks for making me see that.

Yes, you can "get" a mount solo--but you can't "use" the mount until you fulfill some requirements that force you not to solo. I have a goobbue that I used in 1.0 (he's in my Mounts area and I can drag the icon down to action bar) but I can't summon him. And the Calamity Salvager had nothing else for me.

But I'm not even referring to my specific situation (cuz when I do, flame comes from my ears...).

(True) soloers cannot use mounts--that is what I responded in a review to some potential new players. I'm just double-checking (after the fact unfortunately) that that is true.

If you are legacy you should have access to your gobbue, if you got it in 1.0. I had access to mine right away along with my legacy chocobo.

Check the Calamity Salvager to see if your Goobue Horn is on it.

No. You'll have to do Satasha, Tam-Tam Deepcroft, Copperbell Mines and Story Mode Ifrit in order to get a mount. You *must* have a chocobo license from your Grand Company to ride *any* mount. If you didn't get one in 1.x, you're going to have to do those storyline Duty Finders to earn a license here.

While true that die hard solo players cannot use mounts, doing the first three dungeons and ifrit story really isn't that hard and is pretty fast for what you get.

A couple of hours in dungeons max and then your next 30 levels are mounted. Huzzah?

Time travel, go back to 1.0, solo your chocobo License, then come back to 2.0 and use your unlocked mounts.
