I'm in a bit of a rut

So, currently my main I play is a WHM, and I love'im to death. The only problem is that, my current connection to the internet is quite sub-par then what i would like it to be, and there isn't anything I can do about it for 2 more months. It causes me to lag out alot, but I've managed to play through up until now, with minimal problems, minus ghosting x3

I'm still playing through the story line and I've gotten to the point where I have to run Stone Vigil. I'm used to running dungeons and they've actually started to really grow on me but the thing is, I got that quest over a week ago, and I have yet to successfully complete it yet. The very first one I did, was through DF. We all get ready and after the first group of trash mobs, both the tank and one of the DPS just stop, and leave the group, followed by the last DPS, leaving me there alone. I got some new randoms about, 5-10 minutes later. We continue on and before we get to the first boss, the tank just leaves and the DPS say to just leave and try it again, It'll be easier then to find a random tank to join. I do and about 20 minutes later, I get my new party. this one runs a bit more smoothly, but again, before we get to the first boss, Tank just ups and leaves, followed by the DPS.

Having that happen twice in a row,got me a bit down thinking my connection was bad and my healing wasn't good. So I figured I try again tomorrow. The next day, I get on and get a party with duty finder instantly. We run through and everything is going great. No body leaves, and everyone is sympathetic towards my lagging issue. They gave me tips on the bosses and told me about the run. Everything was going great... until we get to the end. everything went great until I started to lag. the whole screen stops and I'm just there spamming heal on the tank when next thing i knew, the boss was doing his spam AOE from the sky and everyone but the BLM was dead. They asked I was good and I apologized for the lag. they understood and we went again, this time I didn't laga drop, but we still got wiped. They gave me more tips and we did it again... and again, until we had about 5 minutes left when we all left the group.

This went on for the next five days were I tried running it with members of my FC and some people I had met online. I just feel so bad that I can't get it done, like I'm letting everyone in the party down. I'm trying as hard as I can but even when I get no lag at all, I either end up getting killed because if the stupid aoe, or I get interrupted when I try to heal the tank and they end up dying. i feel like I'm failing as a healer, and that makes me upset because healing is usually the one thing I'm good at in games xD
And If I can't even do a level 41 dungeon, how am I suppose to do anything at end game? Let alone beat the damn thing. I love playing this game and really don't want to wait 2 months to play it again but I feel like I'm not good enough to play as a WHM.

Is there anything I can do? I mean, I know the lag issue is gonna be hard but, is there really just something I'm missing maybe? Is my gear not good enough? Should I try it as another class(would that even count? xD)

I just don't know what to do Dx

I checked your equipment and that's not an equipment issue. You still have 2 wrong items on you: Your Earrings and you wrist.
Wrist: Peridot Bracelet / Aquamarine Bracelet
Ear: Peridot Earrings / Aquamarine Earrings
You can buy those from the market board, just pick the cheaper one, it doesn't really matter.

I don't know you but from that I assume you lack combat awareness.


I even had to check what boss you have trouble with, but from what I have seen now:
There is 1 AoE everyone gets damage from, you need to heal that, not your fault.

Red Circle spam: If you stand in there, it's your fault.
He flys off and damages 1/3 of the battle field, If you stand in there it's your fault.

You are not playing alone, so no one should take damage from the last two.
If no one takes avoidable damage there should be no issue taking that boss down.

Is there anything you can do? I'm not sure. Its hard to tell if you are or aren't wiping because of lag from reading. If it is because of the lag don't count on yourself able to continue until its resolved unless you can learn to play with it. Healing, well you do need a good connection. DPS can afford to lag as if one dies the party probably won't wipe. If there is nothing you can do about the lag then I have a few suggestions I can make. Level arcanist to 34 and/or blackmage to 26. There are two skills that "could" help with your lag issues. One would be an eye for an eye (arcanist) and swiftcast (thaumaturge) An eye for an eye is a skill where when placed on a party member it has a 20% chance to debuff the enemy. The debuff lasts for 20 seconds and reduces damage done by 10%. The other would be swiftcast. A must have spell. Especially for raising or getting a quick medica off. These will help with your class and you will need them in future end game content.

If the lag still considers to be an issue, I highly recommend doing this until the issue is resolved. You might enjoy playing as a Scholar. With a Scholar you can at least have a fairy who can cure for you during your lag issues. Consider that an option as well. On the plus side, you also can have access of switching to summoner in the instance you rather dps. Switching between the two jobs can also be fun and a good way to level a healing class with having multiple ways of doing so.

I know better then to stand in the aoes :3 but even when do run out of them, or anyone else even we always seem to get hit. I don't know if its just the lag, or if it was just a buggy mechanic, like when I faced Titan and i could be on the other side of the arena and get pushed off.

I've thought of this, so the past couple of days I've been playing around with all of the classes, which I may end up doing.

My friend was just telling me about these skills, so I started leveling my them and acranist more to get them.hopefully they can help me out a bit. ^^

This I may try before going after other classes(though I did enjoy monk lol) since I'll be able to still be healy and have an option for DPS, though I'm still a little unfamiliar with the ways that Scholars work. Guess I need to do some research :3

The final boss of Stone Vigil can be hard - I had real trouble seeing the stretches of the arena that would glow before the boss did his strafing breath attacks, and often by the time I realised I was in one, I couldn't get out fast enough... I think it was luck and practice that finally got me through there - learning the patterns in a way you can't from just having someone tell you about them.
One thing that I've discovered since, because I was having trouble with a similar sort of attack that I couldn't see quick enough in Ifrit HM, is that if you zoom your camera out all the way, and can see almost the entire arena, it's a lot easier to see those attacks and get out the way!
This might not solve your problems, since you're getting lag issues, but it's worth a try

One thing to help you keep an eye on the field and healing at the same time (if you haven't already) move your HUD around.



Put your party list closer to the middle of the screen so you can easiler see the ground and your party's life. Also when you do this, you need to make sure you move the enemy list too cos they will overlap and you need to see that to know how much hate you're generating. If you didn't know:

Green Square: They are ignoring you
Yellow Triangle: Warning, they are ignoring you but will turn if you keep doing that (lol)
Orange Triangle: Bitch stop that! they are now gonna dance between you and the tank.
Red Square: Oh you gone and done it now! Full hate on you!

And my final tip (you probably already know all these) zoom completely out in boss fights. It makes spotting aoe so much easier!!!

Keep yourself alive first so you can keep everyone else alive.

I noticed a lot of ppl have trouble dodging the flying ice breath. The filed is cut up into 3rds if you stand at a junction it's easier for you to evade.
Picture the atk area like #
3 down and 3 across, stand at any intersection, you will be on the edge of the atk area or be safe.

There's also Wtfast which i prefer personally. My latency dropped from around 300 to 120 of less. The first month is free, give it a go.

Do i like to use latency service? No i don't. Does it make a difference in fast paced fights like Titan? Yes it does.

Also maybe try putting graphics on a lower setting, if it isn't already.
