They say they are a crafting material, but I can't figure out what they craft into. Should I just be vendoring all of these?

They were used to make colored lens components by Alch.
They might be useless now, for now. I don't think there is a recipe for Marmot Pelt either. A lot of things are in limbo right now. in this respect.
All the Sands are used to create "Enchanted Ink of X" See link for Enchanted Electrum Ink which are then used to create the books for the Scholar/Summoner/Archanist

They are old crafting materials from early 1.x. The metal dusts (and marmot pelt as well) were used in crafting recipes that were abolished when the entire item system was refactored. They now have no use, nor can new ones be obtained from the game in any way. You might as well vendor them. Marmots now drop the generic Animal Skin to be crafted into Leather, rather than having Marmot Pelts.

I went the opposite route. Marmot Pelt is on the db website as a Lv. 48 Hide. While it has no recipe right now, I bought all I could get my hooks on. Most followed your line of thought and just dumped them. I have 650 NQ and 150 HQ and I paid an average of 1 gil each. I know I didn't spend over 5K gil for all I have so if I log on one day and they are gone, oh well. If on the other hand they are introduced back in to the crafting system, I made a marketed decision. They are old crafting materials from early 1.x.
