Seriously, I think the point is other people don't do things for 100 hours a week. You're free to go on pretending that sitting in a room on your own for upwards of 4 full days a week is the same as bettering yourself through a hobby that is also likely to improve your physical health, whilst gaming will pretty much turn you into a withered husk.

and lol its cloudy here recently too, and NO BGM! D:

You're getting negative feedback because you're entering a place that supports the action you are denouncing. That's tantamount to walking into a packed bar preaching about alcoholism, you will get your ass kicked. And while yes, addictions can be very serious issues, they are enormously varied by person. What affects someone will not affect everyone, and most people don't like to be told how to live their own lives especially if they feel they have a responsible level of moderation on their actions, which in reality most people do. People don't play games to be preached down to, or to argue the merits or science behind addiction.

    Wow seriously?
Have you never been to a casino? There are posters for gambling addiction everywhere.

Oh and just wanted to throw in the last comment here about reading peoples full posts instead of picking em apart... read my first post esp you Sephr, lots of fun facts if you actually care about that sorta thing but doubtful! plenty of non physical past time's and hobbies, figure it out. Again any decent gamer know's not to be that fat guy from surrogates haha... mind and body hand in hand, plenty of people do certain things 100+ hours a week that they just damn well enjoy... thanks for proving your ignorance and making my point... but guess this thread only attracts the two kinds of people xD

There are plenty of things one could do that I didn't list off such as reading, or playing board games with your family or whatever.

Maybe people who are slamming this thread should read the website before they post condescending know-it-all remarks saying that my OP is a)stupid because ffxiv is so bad u cant get addicted to it b)the op doesnt know what he's talking about c)theres no such thing as gaming addiction.
    A) But it's sort of true, lol.
    B) You do know, but it looks like you cannot deal / accept OTHER's views on the same subject.
    C) No one said that in this thread as far as i've noticed.

Sure, one could say that liking sports in indeed better for your health than gaming. Still not reason enough to just keep hammering on those that do not like sports to have a life or keep pestering them about 'how gaming is harmful to your life, you should do something you do not care about or like at all because that's the right thing to do!'. Also, I'm pretty sure i'm not a withered husk, but thanks for your concern.

Im only speaking against people who say that there is no such thing as gaming addiction. Everyone is taking this really personally almost as if they know they have some underlying problem in their lives that is effecting every aspect of their daily being and can't quite put their fingers on what it is.

Funny how most of it caters to multiplayer games like Halo and WoW which got thrown around a lot.

What if I like to argue and talk about videogames? What if I like to play videogames that don't have some sort of 'high score' or reputation? What if I just like it as a form of escapism?

Videogames are a big part of my life. They're a form of media that encompasses both visual, audio and interactivity. I do acknowledge that I'm socially inept.
"If you game all summer you will miss out on camping, biking, travelling/ road trips, swimming, tanning, going to the beach, bbqs etc, and all the other fun things life has to offer during any season."
I've always wanted to do all those - but I've got no one to do it with. I keep telling myself it's my surroundings and hope I'll find someone or group of people I'll be able to hang out with someday - that feeling spirals into low self esteem and all sorts of other things you'll pseudo-diagnose yourself. To me it's all about finding the right people or you won't feel comfortable at all.

Honestly, if you think you're around the right people - go for it.
