Jack another thing just because a girlfriend cannot pull her bf from tv screen, computer monitor, or their ds doesn't mean the player is addicted. There are underlying factors to every circumstance, and calling something an addiction because of observed actions and pre conceived notions is not correct either.

Unless you are a professional psychologist and deal specifically in addictions you should not be telling people what they could be doing with their spare time.

I spend about 5-6 hour 3-5 days a week paying xiv. I would not consider this a problem. I am gainfully employed, have a family, a house, and have social and familial obligations. Now with my spare time i choose to take up gaming specifically xiv because I enjoy it. My fiance she watches tv and is pregnant and not very mobile, so we are limited in what we can do. So when she watches tv I am bored, because I do not like tv. As well After 10+ hours at work the last thing I want to do is read or anything that remotely resembles my job.

How does your post and opinions relate to me? it doesn't and most the people bar very few as well. Like I said unless you're a professional in the field it would be better if you do not come to a forum like this to bring up these topics. You are better served in a blog or other social media like facebook.

Pointless thread, kids will do what they want to do unless their parents make them do other things. If I was still a kid and you told me this I would give you the bird finger. Often when I was younger I did go outside and play a lot but I lived in FL so when it was raining or 100+ degrees outside plus humidity during mid-summer I was outside swimming or inside playing games if I could help it.

I burn easily in the sun so I don't like going out during the day and also it's way too hot during the day. Not too much into going bars anymore either so not much evening activity like that either. But I do go over at my friends places and I'm searching a job too so that takes time off of the games.

Also for the addiction part, sure video games can be addictive but I would rather the people I know be addicted to video games instead of being addicted to Meth or Coke or other stupid crap that is a lot more harmful. I believe everybody is addicted to something and how far they go with it totally depends on the personality of the person in question. Plus many of my fond childhood memories involve sitting around a TV with 3 other friends playing some Goldeneye 007 or playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time and some would've called me a video game addict but it was my hobby of choice. Who gives anyone the right to judge a person based on what they like to do because they deem it immoral by the standards of somebody else, it's not physically healthy and true enough it is not but don't say it is wasting your childhood because for many people playing video games makes them feel young again.

Look at some of the hardcore Asian people that play these MMOs, they are in shape and play more than most of us do. They also work full time jobs and some have a family yet they still manage their love for their hobby. I don't think gaming is bad or really so much an addiction but just like anything else you need some self control and discipline so it doesn't become an addiction.

I probably have an addiction, but it doesnt affect my life, and i play so many different games.

If I go out get sunburnt i'll probably get cancer, or i'll get bitten by some bug, or a wasp will start with me, or i could get run over, NASTY WORLD OUT THERE! No one bothers to cast raise so i aint risking it.

No need to get defensive, Jack. Most people don't like it when someone tells them they should live their life based on the opinion of another rather than how they choose to live it.

You guys are demonizing me and ad-homonym attacking me over a thread that promotes well being for people who have a serious illness. I'm not telling anyone how to live their lives, I'm providing tools to help one determine if they have an illness in the first place and tools to help deal with it.
