Anything they do to combat it, RMT will find a way to work around it. They're nothing if not adaptable. If SE limits how often you can shout, they'll just make more characters so you have to blist 9 instead of 3.

The only way to stop it is a roving band of GMs who bounce from city to city on each server and ban shouters. Make random passes every day.

Since maintenance the other day i havnt seen one rmt spam in chat (moogle server). Im still getting two or three tells aday though. Plus all the bots i reported upto three weeks ago are still active, if they got rid of the bots quicker i think there would be less rmt spamming.

System > Support Desk > Contact Us > Report Cheating (if it was a /tell, you could also Report Harrassment I believe)

It's not well automated though... you gotta manually give the location, date, and the reported character's name, so have that handy.

This seems like the only viable option to me in a game with this set-up, but I don't think we need to have random passes.

1. Make advertising gold sites a ban offence
2. Add a report option to the right click menu for names in chat - ensure that it includes the text that's being reported
3. Have all reports for all servers filter to a single queue which is reviewed by a few interns or co-op students
4. Ban the account of anyone that meets the gold ad criteria - bonus points for having the ban action clear the queue of any remaining reports on that account

If these guys have to buy a new account every time they advertise their site I think it would quickly become cost prohibitive. Essentially, each ad in chat would become the cost of the game. How often could they do that?
