Idea: Make Beastmaster a Disciple of Land Class

Now, hear me out. What if Beastmaster was like a Botanist, but instead of harvesting Trees and bushes, it harvests the dead caucus of animal it defeats?

It can be a DoL class that complements Leatherworkers, Weavers, and Culinarians.

You would charm other animals your level and then use it to defeat other enemies. And with limited gathering attempts, open up the body and gather meat, web, shards, fangs, skin or blood using a similar UI Botanists use for harvesting.

Of course there should be some limitations. Like a charmed enemy cannot attack "claimed" mobs nor will the enemies it defeats drop any exp or loot.

You can have skills like taunt and heal. Or maybe even one that unleshes their special attack, kind of like SMN's Enkindle skill.

A DoL which spends its time fighting and gets the same stuff for it as a DoW? I can't say I see this as particularly reasonable.

I've been meaning to get around to posting a DoL class concept for generating mob-drop items by raising creatures, like a Harvest Moon game. Honestly, to get those materials, you pretty much have to do that or harvest directly from mobs, which is going to be a bit silly when you want to harvest the hide of a living creature...

Or, you know, have a buff as a LTW that applies to all DOW/DOM that increases chances of skin drops by a large %, however the % is based upon the level of your LTW. Likesay you can make Toad leather, killing toads will now yield more skin/drop more often.

What you are describing isn't a Beastmaster, which is a animal trainer/pet class. You are describing Skinning from WoW, which is a profession often also employed by Leatherworkers who then processed the carcasses.

Also, what am I going to do with all of these Redbelly Hivekeepers? Reenact that scene from Predator II and mount their bodies on walls, and hang them upside down and skinless to drain?

IMO a DoM/DoW class shouldn't have to farm for crafting mats. That's the whole point of the DoL, to obtain mats and complement DoH classes. The items harvested shouldn't be obtainable by other means just like it is for mining and logging.

There were plans for a "Shepherd" class back in 1.0 but it never came into fruition. It might be something that'll come into play later on down the road.

It could still have all the traits and abilities of FFXI's BST in order to charm and kill enemies. Even the Call familiar skill. All that DoL stuff happens after it kills the mob.
