You're also forgetting the fact that they have to be in melee range and have less defense than a dragoon

Thats not quite accurate. Dragoons have the lowest magical defense, which is the only dmg you should realistically get hit by (AOEs), physical defense is almost never a factor, unless you are tanking.

So dragoons are actually the dps class most likely to die.
