This. Idk why ppl automatically assume I play at a computer desk. I played while lying down on my reclining couch!

The fact that this game isn't the only thing I have a PC for. My PC is way too big and heavy to move around, so wherever it's set up, that's where it will be for everything I use it for. I certainly wouldn't want to try editing documents and spreadsheets on my TV. Nor do I even want to play games on the TV that were designed for use with a keyboard and mouse. (I'm guessing that this game may have reasonably good game-controller functionality even on PC, since it was designed cross-platform with a console version, but some PC games really need a keyboard and mouse, which means you need to be at a desk to use them comfortably.)

p.s. My PC was a high-end gaming rig back when I bought it, but that was a few years ago so it's starting to get a bit dated.

Same here. Granted, I'm not sure if I've been in the FATEs that had too many people that things started lagging but... so far, I've been fine!

To be fair, you can buy a USB keyboard and mouse to plug into the PS3, so that solves the issue of needing those to play. Some people do vice versa too, play on the PC with a gamepad.

What you just linked would be roughly $800 after converting which is $800 a lot of people don't want to spend on. Even if it's a myth nowadays, it's still a few hundred dollars worth of spending money that people just don't want to spend on especially when the PS3 is pretty decent or their PC already plays things decent enough. You just have to put money into perspective rather than ragging on what's better and how PS3 isn't good enough anymore.

It's certainly just fine from where I'm sitting.

Of course the #1 reason is the size of the viewing screen. The game sure looks nicer on a 46" TV than a small monitor.

#2-The chat text from NPCs on the PC monitor is so small it will give you eyestrain to try to read the chat text. On the large TV the chat text is easy to read and more enjoyable.

#3- Clicking on chat text many times with a mouse on the PC version will definitely strain your wrist muscles. With the PS3 you use a PS3 controller and there is no strain at all, just tap a button for constant chat from a NPC.

#4-The graphics on the PS3 version is just as nice on my TV as on my PC version. So you will not be missing out on any visual beauty
I'm not trying to say that one is better than the other, but your reasons for saying that the PS3 version is superior to the PC are actually inaccurate.

Firstly, you can easily buy a large computer monitor, or, if you have that large HDMI 3D TV, you do know most TVs these days allow PC interaction? - just plug your PC into your TV and it solves your problem.

Secondly, chat window text size can be adjusted in System settings - default size is 12 (which is the default size for most word processing programs) but you can easily increase or decrease the size to suit your needs. You can also increase the size of the chat window as well by simply clicking and dragging it up or down.

Third point is pretty much the same as number two - increase the text size to compensate. I have no trouble reading the text at a default setting on my PC (and I'm playing on a smaller LED monitor too), although I do have good eyesight so I guess that helps (someone with glasses or poor eyesight however probably would struggle to read it or get eyestrain if the text is small), in which case, as mentioned, just increase the text size. And don't forget you can easily use a controller with the PC version as well - you can switch at will between keyboard/mouse and controller settings after all.

And your final point is purely subjective based on your current PC settings - if you have the hardware you can run this game at graphic settings that exceed the PS3 version's quality. This game was designed to run well on slow to medium range computers, so if you had a PC that could run 1.0 well enough, imagine what ARR will run like.

I'm sorry if it looks like I'm trying to say the PC version is better - it's not necessarily, as that's just purely personal choice, but I just wanted to clarify you main issues you have with the PC version are easily fixed. Personally, I prefer the PC version, even though I could have bought the PS3 version - I just prefer playing on PC myself.

My message that you quoted was talking about there being other things I do on my PC besides this game. The point was that I'm not going to set up my PC to be just exclusively for this one game alone and do nothing else with it, and that's why it's not practical to have it in my living room hooked up to my TV.

(Oh, and I do actually have a keyboard for my PS3, but I only use it for chat. For actual gameplay I stick with the controller, which is better suited to a living room environment without a desk. A keyboard is awkward in that environment and a mouse would be impossible.)

See above. PS3 can handle all that mid range PC can. Low end PCs are actually worse off than the PS3. You can also change settings to optimize for FATES like the behemoth and odin fights.
Both have ways to do what each have. There is no better system unless you spend $2000+ on a PC. Both are completely viable.
A lot of what you said here bothered me. You don't need a $2000+ PC to play on the best settings. I spent $1200 on mine, it's closing in on two years old and I play with everything at the highest settings with great fps.

Just because you don't know how to set things up does not mean the PC monitor is limited.

I have extremely bad eye sight. This means that even with corrective lenses I don't see as well as most people can. My chat box is set to the lowest font and off in the corner of my screen and I can still read it just fine, so your argument of "too small text" is rather silly.

He never said that the PS3 was useless. He was simply calling the OP out on his second point about strain from using a mouse (also silly, you can set things up for yourself to minimize mouse usage) in that you don't have to use a mouse on the PC.

So, anyways. In my opinion, there's no "better" way to do things. Some of us prefer the PC with higher resolution, smaller screen (I don't like playing MMOs in the giant tv screens) and some prefer the larger tv screens. Some prefer keyboard/mouse and others prefer gaming pad. Just because you prefer your way does not mean you can tell people that their way isn't as good.

I have never played on a console. Won't do it. I support PC games only. I will never play console games. I wanted to play FF many years ago and couldn't because I won't support console gaming. It is destroying PC gaming. So hard to find any PC games now when you go to the computer stores...99% console games. Annoying...I have supported PC since the 80's and won't use a console.

I accept that this game is cross platform, but I'm playing because it is on PS3.

-After sitting at a desk and working on a pc it's a real pleasure to slouch on the couch with a controller and play on a tv.
-Even when I played MMOs on PC I hated mods, addons, and anything that didn't come in the box. Ventrillo has been the only exception.
-I WANT this game to usher in a new era of console MMOs.
