Gotcha. I just asked because name length restrictions (20 characters total) can be really bad when making a Roegadyn. So if you want a lore-appropriate surname it's going to have to be only 7-8 characters long, which really limits your choices.

As to pronunciation: yes, I'd pronounce the -a as "ah."

I have to mention though...the Fantasia unfortunately doesn't let you rename your character. The only way I know of to rename (which I'm not 100% about yet) is to make an alt on another server with your current name, then transfer your main character so you're forced to rename them.

If that's not something you want to do, then maybe you could make a Hellsguard and keep your name? It fits their conventions. Or make a more neutral-colored Sea Wolf and say you're half Hellsguard. Or adopted by Hellsguard. Or just chose to translate your name like they do. Plenty of options, at least.

You misunderstand. I want to remain named Wandering Adventurer and will use my Fantasia to change to a Sea Wolf. According to the naming conventions for Roegadyn, it is not uncommon for a Sea Wolf to use a modern Eorzean name and a Hellsguard to stick with one that uses the old language. I will be one of the Sea Wolves who use a modern Eorzean name so those I meet don't struggle to call me by Eyriabhentyra, while those who know me by my real name can call me Eyriabhentyra if they choose. It's as if my name was William but went by Bill.

I will create a Sea Wolf alt to reserve my old languages name, but will play on Wandering Adventurer as a Sea Wolf with a modern Eorzean name. And because of the character limits for names in-game, I will simply split Eyri and Abhentyra. I don't have intentions of playing the character though.

I missed the part about Sea Wolves last names being their father's name + syn, so I named myself Eyriabhentyra Merlsyn, which translates as "Wandering Adventurer, son of the Sea". It may not follow lore completely, but it satisfies me, and is a matter insignificant for the people I hope to roleplay with.

Thanks again Junah, you have been a major help in choosing my Roegadyn name.

    No problem!

And I think there are plenty of reasons why a Roegadyn might choose to abandon their birth surname and create a new one that doesn't quite fit the lore (never knowing their father, having a falling out with their family, etc)--but I'm not going to annoy you anymore with unasked for RPing advice.

Try using "Quicksilver" as the equivalent, and look up the Roe dictionary and the advice above to come up with a nice-sounding name.
For one, "silver" is Sylb, classified as adjective/noun; you could combine that with Hirsk, "agile", or even better, Holsk, "fast".

(Am I doing this right, Junah? I'm a bit rusty when it comes to my Roegadyn...)

If the element, not the god, is your goal, Geist is on the right track. "Quicksilver" actually appears in Old High German as quecsilbar. Since the team slightly shifted "silbar" to "sylb," and doesn't have another word for quick yet (that we've seen), you can also slightly change quec, if you want. Roegadyn conventions rarely use "ue" when they can go with "oe" (pronounced oo), or w (pronounced like a v), if I'm interpreting the list correctly. And there's not a single Q on that list, so far, either. Kwyksylb, maybe? It's fun to say.
