I wanted to do some speedruns to get tomes to get the DL Armor (which is apparently a necessity for AK and HM bosses). The most rewarding place seems to be CM or Prae, depending on who you ask, but anytime I get into one of those dungeons I always get yelled at for still having my AF armor. I've also been warned by a friend to not even attempt the HM bosses until I get better armor, or similar consequences will erupt from my party.

The only way to get these tomes is to run dungeons, but to run dungeons with people you need the armor. To get said armor you need those tomes. Catch my drift?

The only dungeon I seem to be able to do without a problem is WP, but it doesn't give that many tomes out...and I need to do AK for my Relic Quest and my GC quest. I JUST got the DL choker after a few days' worth of runs, and running the same dungeon gets boring...

trust me, it's a vicious cycle.

CM can be run with AF1, just off tank. make sure you have the sword from your GC too.

HM ifrit can also be, you would be in charge of interrupts though.

at least, those are my opinions of those two. ;P

Done CM runs using DF for ~10 times now, no one ever mention about me wearing AF armer.
Maybe the people you were team up are those want a 'really really speed run', try using DF since it's not that hard.
For HM bosses, I'll certainly try Ifrit after I got 3 or more pieces of DL.

You do not need DL for CM or Prae, dps may need better weapon for speed run but I doubt a healer would need to be so well geared for it
You do not need DL for AK either, my friend, a healer did it with AF gear.
You do not need DL for Ifrit HM, good too have for Garuda HM as the boss hurts quite a bit more, and of course Titan HM you will need at least few pieces and sufficient HP.

The thing is that people shouting are looking for fast, efficient runs to burn through as many as possible in as short as possible, and good gear delivers that. You can queue up for any of those dungeons, and generally people aren't going to care in Duty Finder.

So my suggestion would be to either run with friends/guildies or just run in DF until you have a bit better gear.

im currently doing cm/wp for some tomes with ilvl50/55 items, no ones mentioned my armor once, for some classes its probably really important but not causing any problems for me so far

It doesn't really matter what the healer has for most content as long as you don't do stupid things. I completed everything up to Ifrit HM in AF gear and only DL jewelry for Garuda HM the first time i got a kill on it and didn't die. The only thing DL is useful for is Titan and beyond where there is tons of damage for everyone to absorb and it helps you survive.

CM and Prae and even AK are cakewalks when you know the fights. You don't need DL for those because you won't be taking much if any damage.

On whm, I do CM/AK with 4 pieces of actual fighting gear and the rest crafting gear/jewelry. Why, groups miss some of the fearsome Holy spam dps, but that's about it. Gear as a healer matters little till Coil.

As others have said, just join duty finder groups rather than shout speed run groups.

Also, if you save up and get yoru body piece first, you'll look like a "real dps." Most peopel won't ntoice your af once they see the body piece.

You can easily do CM, Prae, AK, and HM Ifrit with just AF (lvl 45) set and lvl 47 white HQ jewelry. Same goes for HM Garuda, unless you are a tank - they would need at least a few pieces of DL. Do not attempt HM Titan without at least Ifrit weapon and almost full DL (1-2 pieces missing at most) unless you have a group that is willing to carry you hard.
