I guess this is another good point based on information I don't have yet. Stop being so reasonable! :P

Personally I highly recommend this option for all first timers.
However, now that I think about it, this isn't a good point. You see, for the casual crowd, FCs are for hardcores. You can experience 99.99999% of the main story casually at your own pace, alone except for the dungeons, but then you should just have magically known to join a guild so you can enjoy that last fraction of a percent of the story? How?

While it's true that you can do every bit of the content along the main story without joining an FC (I did myself), to say that FCs are for hardcores is feeding a common misconception. My current FC, "The Working Class" is an FC dedicated to casual players with jobs, lives, children, and all those other things that tend to get in the way of 3am mandatory coil runs. I'm entirely sure there are similar FCs on other servers, but if you're looking for a great group of folks to be a casual with I invite you to transfer to Lamia and look us up! I promise we'll let you watch the cutscenes.

As you'll see me reference once again below in a moment, the DF does not cater to any one specific playstyle. An FC can guarantee you a solid run, the DF does not and likely never will. And again, I'm referring to what is, not commentating on what should be.

Can you provide the link for me to where, in any part of the game or the SE site it says that the DF is not for "speed runs"? Despite my considerable Google-foo skills I've yet to find it.

And for the majority of folks a lack of time to spend isn't the issue. It's not a matter of waiting until more time is available, it's a matter of wanting to maximize the profit from the time invested.
