You probably cannot feel the effects of botters like people that try to rank up crafts do. I see you have a rank 26 weaver, which is great, but as you get higher, it's much harder to obtain materials you need to keep ranking up crafts. If you are focusing more on battlecraft it hardly effects you. To you, you can get cheap gear, and could care less about battlecraft bots because most people just rank up on regional leves. However, crafting and gathering is a different ballgame. Bot gathers probably make the most of their money from bot crafters, however, legitimate gathers have tons of trouble trying to make a 'living' when bot gathers are raking in tons more to sell and sell it for less. Then Bot crafters do tons of crafts, get them all to 50, while other legitimate crafters struggle to get themselves in the position to make the same items to sell that bot crafters do.

Maybe on some servers it's not as bad as it has been in Bodhum, but when it feels like more than 50% of the population is cheating their way to the top, something is definitely wrong, whether you care or 'feel' like it effects you. It does, one way or another. Everyone is effected.

This is part of the reason I want signed equipment and a prompt telling you who owns a retainer. I do not wish to help support these botters and do my best to just buy and barter from players I trust.

The general market is worthless, what is there really to compete over for? NQ items you might as well give out for free, so that leaves HQ's. Getting an item to +1 or +2 is pretty much ezmode. The only true market we are going to see is for that elusive +3. Bot's aren't causing this particular issue, it's the market system itself. So long as nothing is being taken out of the market, the older the server gets the more worthless items get as more and more items enter the system.

Bots you can argue are able to sit on huge amounts of money selling shards/fish (as far as I know there's no bot for botany and mining) and with that particular issue can and will devalue currency. Competition on anything else besides +3's is basically pointless so long as the system remains as it is.

You must be talking about gear? Because people buy NQ items from wards everyday. Mostly for crafting. And there is competition on those items because people need them to rank up their crafts and do not care to farm or gather themselves.

Then as far as gear goes, clothes for crafting - typically no one cares if it is HQ or not because it doesn't appear to make any true difference for crafting.

Then you get into HQ gear for lower and middle ranked classes. Again, not many people care if these are HQ because they will soon rank out of it.

Then for the high-end ranked gear, that depends on the player. Some people do not care about the HQ's slight boost to defense or other stats.

Overall, if the population was larger, we would probably see more of these gears selling more often. I don't think everyone that would play this game, if it were up to par and didn't have a poor reputation, would want to craft and thus would go to buy those items. But as it is now, most people that play the game now, not only fight, but craft and gather.

We have a lot of items in circulation and not many players. And on top of that, bots are bringing in even more and swaying things out of balance for people that work hard and can't make two gil to rub together. The more legitimate players will try to progress, the poorer they will become, whilst botters not only are free of the burn of grinding, but their pockets fill with gil, and once new things come out, they can bot and continue to monopolize.

If there are no bots for gathering (which I highly doubt) then this must only be because there is no point in gathering for more than a few hours as you hit gatherer's fatigue and start auto-failing. If I recall correctly, it's 150 sucessfull attempts to start auto-failing and 250 to get a 100% fail-rate with recovery taking about a day. Imagine the chaos if this were lifted.

As a miner and smith, I have just decided that the next time I have iron nuggets to sell, I will put out a shout in the blacksmith's guild (and my linkshells) to offer selling them for really cheap, but qualify the sale to persons with no more than two crafts over rank 40 - I will check the lodestone profile information on anyone who wants to take up the offer.

Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing

I'll be honest, I'm skeptical of the characters who have rank 50 fisherman. I know there are players out there who are ranking this class honestly, but when I see someone who has or is going to have capped it, it's like a red flag. Of course I am basing this off personal experiences and judgement.

Fisher is the easiest class in the game to cap out. Sit at a Grade 7 or 10 node and you can pretty much cap out within a month and a half fishing a few hours a day. Less if you're masochist and/or have sweat of brow. It's much different from mining and botanist, although there are ways to speed those up also. They just can't be powerleveled to that extent since there are no higher grades than 5 for them.

Yea I was referring to gear since the only thing I ever see bots making is shards. Even if the game had more people, the fact that nothing ever leaves the market still makes the items worth less and less as time goes on, with or without bots. A single player if they wanted to be a dick right now could make 50 iron cuirass's and flood the market just because the mats are easy to get. That's why the bots are only bothering with certain items like shards, because the money is with things that sell fast. The only thing that will be worth anything will be the rarer +3 items or if we see something like BCNM's, the rare crafting drops. FFXI was the exact same way, every general item with the exception of consumables became worthless.

I ended up using FFXI's AH as a massive storage facility. Buy full sets of gear for your lower job for basically nothing. Once I was finished I either just dropped the gear or resold it adding to the 50 that were already in stock.

    Example:

I run between 3 points north of Limsa Lominsa to level my Botany. They are all Rank 5 nodes, and I have been doing this since R2 Botanist. I am here for a few hours every few days, and every time I have done this, I get called a bot by practically everyone that runs past me.

Does this make me a bot?

    No.

It makes people self entitled, and think they have any reason at all to involve themselves in total strangers businesses.
