As far as I'm aware, that's how it works for all sub games. The $15 a month covers the server upkeep, minor/major game fixes as well as major patch content. But, the expansions cost extra because they're a much larger amount of content all at once.Regarding the subscription and the free content, is that true that WoW charges for the monthly subscription AND the DLC/expansions?! It seems a rip off to me, those should be covered by the subscription, shouldn't they? Any word about what SE plan is on this regard? Because I would not be happy at all if they charge for the (potential) extensions as well.

Hmm… WoW charges $15/month, $180/year. That's more than enough to rent a bit of the server and to get 2 extra games per year. To run a MMO could be expensive 10 years ago, now with the cost of one old server at the time they buy a server dozens of times more powerful. And the connections are even cheaper. Not that it really matters because I monitored the FF XIV bandwidth and it is 5MB… per hour. Less than 60Kbps per user.

Yeah, but at that price we're getting 2-3 expansions worth of content in the form of patches plus active day to day changes. We're not just paying for server up keep. :PHmm… WoW charges $15/month, $180/year. That's more than enough to rent a bit of the server and to get 2 extra games per year.
