Fair enough, point taken.
I interpreted their comment as being more of a figure of speech. As in "these people are like family to me". I get your point, but its not uncommon for some people to refer to their best friends as being "like family".
I don't know why, but your comment is making me laugh hard right now.
But ya I totally agree. I don't really know how anyone can really treat their fellow online friends as actual "friends" or "family." That's a little weird to me...
What is this? A person having fun and enjoying his time playing? What kind of twisted black magic is this? /sarcasm
Seriously though, I agree with what you said. This game is so much more than rushing to endgame only to grind for your gear.
Endgame isn't going anywhere, your time and enjoyment is.
Great post. All you say is nice and all and am glad you're having fun. I'm in no hurry to be max level, it's been nearly a month and I'm still not 50 WHM. Going to get flame posts for this but...
Game for me, is generic and cookie-cutter...Offers nothing new at all from other MMO's at the start...FATE grinding...probably the worst thing in this game for me fix that and I'll probably be a lot happier...But it's nice to see someone really loving this game and having a blast without saying "F you! Go away."
Just wish it was the same for me. I'm on the fence with subbing and I know the game will grow in due time but I'm not sure just yet.
Now I changed my mind from earlier posts of won't be leaving to on the fence. The new MMO is a bad excuse to have lack of things to do and the game isn't new, it's a reboot.
Probably on and off like others said. No clue atm. All I'm say is, more fun things outside crap FATE's and Crafting. That's all I really want. More fun things like Minigames and fix the Limit break system.
The icon of battle of all FF and this one is a huge damn joke lol.
We'll see whats to come.

I agree it's fine to make friends online. But family? That's pushing it for me.All you say is nice and all and am glad you're having fun. I'm in no hurry to be max level, it's been nearly a month and I'm still not 50 WHM.

There's nothing wrong with that. People I heard up over in XI, met in real life and got married because they met in the game.
Nothing new, you're late my friend. o-o; It's alright to make close friends online lmfao.
Maybe it's just an Italian thing. Don't mind me.
Oh and on-topic: No, we won't be subbing. FFXIV is, as arrivederci said, a generic, standard, unoriginal, game with so many aspects from 'other games' literally carbon copied. Add to that the horribly inefficient netcode and ill programmed engine and behold SE's newest "jewel".

The first time anything resembling limit breaks was even in a FF was in FFVI (Desperation Attacks), and most people didn't even know they existed. They were random attacks that would only happen when you were at critical health. They didn't really become a major thing until FFVII.

Bravo OP, bravo
I agree wholeheartedly with your post. 1.0 was pretty fun for me, but this just blows everything else away
All the little details they took the time to program and the physics engine are really the jewel of it all, the story, lore, allusions all a fine polish to the game
Sanjuro - - Asura - - FFXI - - Go Go Puppetmaster!

The only reason I sub is because it is a FF game, I am a FF fanboi and atm I don't see any better alternatives. There is more to come is what keeps me atm because this vibrant world you talk about in OP is certainly true except there is no reason to see it when you are lvl 50. You can talk all you want about leveling different classes or w/e, but I already have the ones I want at 50 with all needed crossclass abilities and while the world is pretty and vivid and alive, it has no use atm (unless I enjoy going to FATEs like Behemoth and Odin which are boring zergfests that completely destroy the coolness of the actual mobs with no decent reward). So the hope of them making use of the world and adding some fun things to do outside of farming instances is what keeps me. Probably on and off until EQN or Titan.
Rich and Vibrant World:
The game looks good, there's no doubt about that. Texture qualities could be improved in places, but it's not a big deal either way. Characters are not proportionate though, but they don't really have to be either, it's a fantasy world.
Most large scale MMO's have a decent backstory. Also, references to pop culture is not unique to this game.
The Community:
Can't say I share your experience. I've had more bad experiences with the community in this game than any other MMO I've played, but maybe I'm just unlucky.
The little details:
Yeah, love the attention to detail. Makes the world more alive.
More to come:
Golden Saucer looks interesting.
In Conclusion:
Game looks great, and have a good foundation to build upon. It manages to stay true to the franchise and most people a fan of it will probably feel at home. That being said, between the poor network coding, customer support, handling of RMT and at least in my opinion a rather dull and uninspired end-game in it's current form, I have no intention of subscribing.
