Several beginners questions

First of all. When and how can I sell stuff on the market ?
For the retainer I think I am too low level and I am advised to get back to the adventure club. At what (crafting ?)level am I allowed to sell stuff on the market ?

For crafting I need mats. No problem, I buy or collect them but is there some information where I can find the mats if they are not sold by the NPC's (Or which monsters give that specific items and where can I find those monsters.
For now I am looking for Elm logs to make Elm woods. No clue where to find the elm logs and I refuse to pay a fortune on the market for it (And I am poor too) or Aldgoat skin. Where the hell are the Aldgoats ?

You can't sell on the market till you get your retainer you don't get this till about level 17 as you progress through the story but not sure you can progress story as a crafter I may be wrong so you need to level a Dow or a dom to about 17 when you get the retainer quest the logs you are looking for will be on a tree at the Dane level your gatherer is for them items

You need a retainer to sell in the markets as stated. You get access to one through the main scenario quests at around lvl 20. You can only get this far as a Disciple of war or magic

Elm logs are gathered as botanist just outside of Bentbranch meadows, Central Shroud, from the lvl 15 Mature Trees.

One other question. Can I tranfer goods between the chars I have. They are all in the same world ?
and I have found the Aldgoats leather. Killing Myotragus Nanny give several Aldgoat goods (leather, flesh, horn). The monsters can be found South of Camp Drybone in the direction of South Thanalan

If your hard core, or just cheap. Level up botanist and Miner. And keep those about 8 levels ahead of your highest craft. That would be my advice. And make sure you gather a lot!

3 logs = 1 lumber

and kinda the same for miner it gets a little more complicated when melding ores.

You gather Elm logs as Botantist. If your Botanist could gather Elm logs, it would be in your Gathering Log, along with where to find them.

You sell stuff on the market with retainers; you get them on completing the main storyline quest "The Scions of the Seventh Dawn", which has a requirement of level 17 and also requires you to have completed the storyline to that point (which means you'll need to beat the Satasha, Tam-Tara Deepcroft and Copperbell Mines dungeons). You can then go to the Retainer Vocate in the market area and request them. You get two; these not only give you 40 sell slots combined on the markets, they give a total of 350 more storage slots. It really does help to put off seriously pursuing crafting and gathering until you get your retainers.

Finally, no, there is no good way to transfer items between your characters, because you cannot be logged on to both of them at the same time. Face-to-face trades require both characters to be on at the same time and Mogmail can only be sent to characters on your friend list and sending a friend request, again, requires both characters to be logged on at the same time.

Not directly. You can only mail things to characters on your friends list, and you can't add your own characters to your friends list. If you have a friend you trust, you can trade/mail to them and have them trade/mail to your alts. Another option is using the FC bank if all your characters are in the same FC and have access to deposit and withdraw (and again with the trust there, too).

As far as finding ingredients for crafts, I use xivdb.

I think I have to level up a char for botanist or miner to get the item I desire. But that is just stupidity.
As carpenter I need Elm logs too but I have looked everywhere. Killed several trees (lvl 12 en 21 the ones I have found) but no items I want.
Very very frustrating. Where/ what is the FC bank ??

Just one thing not sure if you know this by somethings in your post but 1 character can be every class so you don't need to make more characters just go learn the other classes you can have all at 50 on 1 character that's 19 classes
