Does no one else use "Target of target"?

I am just curious to this. I had a tank ask me the other day why me and the other DPS weren't attacking the same thing, and I told him that "if the targets aren't marked, I set focus to the tank and do target of target".

While I am aware that tanks often switch targets, me being a WAR as well, this is one of the first skills I learned in MMO's and has worked in every other MMO I have played, but in FFXIV it seems so far that I am the only person that does this.

To clarify, I do not switch targets with the tank, I DPS down what he Tomahawks or Sheild Lobs.

Am I wrong? If so, I'll add this to the "Facepalm" thread, lol.

I have WHM macros that use it so when the party is fully healed I can attack the tank's mob without worrying about targeting it and switching back.

I don't use macros either. If the tank isn't marking, I shift+F to set him as focus, and just DPS his target.

I find that using macros has a greater benefit for ps3 than for PC, but for certain things they can really help for both. Like stated above, as a healer I always macro my offensive abilities as <tt> so I dont' have to switch back to the tank in case he/she takes a big hit while I'm helping the DPS.

Hmmm, I guess maybe the tank and other DPS didn't know/understand what I was doing? I dunno, I just know that a tank, and really good one actually, in WoW once told me "always set me as focus, and do ToT if I don't mark the targets", so that's what I still do. And the tank and other DPS in this example acted like I was from Mars or something...

If your tank doesnt want to mark, then he/she is garbage. In case these things happen, you should be prepared to mark things yourself. As far as <tt> , I only use it when healing. You are probably using "target of target" on your rotation skills. Which isnt the best thing to do.

When i tank i don't mark and don't lose agro, is super easy to keep agro after lvl 35 with gld and 30 with war.

To op, just always consider the number 1 add the one tanker use shield lob/tomahawk and the tab and hit the next, is easy for the tanker to see each add u hitting after the first and start atk it too, btw do have some sense if u see ur other dps is single atk a second monster, change for his target or else tanker will lose a high tp/mp for no reason
