agree they need something....Some have implemented it just fine. Turbine has virtually eliminated it from LOTRO and DDO. They've got a number of rules to discourage it, but the main thing is that they make it easy for players to report and they have GMs who stay on top of those reports.
Square Enix has it even easier, because this is a subscription based game. Gilsellers have to make enough profit from each subscription to pay for that subscription. They couldn't do that if the subscription got banned five minutes after their first ad message was broadcast because a dozen players instantly reported it. If you keep their profits below the cost of setting up a subscription, then they won't do it. (That doesn't completely take care of the gilselling itself. They'll simply advertise it elsewhere. But at least their ads won't take over our in-game chat box.)
