I heard people were getting banned because RMT was buying their goods in the AH. I hope that was just a nasty rumor with no truth behind it, but if it is true than I feel real sorry for anyone that got hit by that if they didn't deserve it.

Shamelessly stealing this link from a poster on reddit. It's from XI in 2008 but it explains how the RMT special task force operate.

In particular it explains why they don't just ban the bots and shouters when they receive the reports, why people over a certain amount of Gil got caught (gilded tomb) and why so many got caught in one massive sweep. It's actually quite impressive.

Foxclon also posted recently to dispel rumors about "1 month bans" for hacking and duping exploits. The unofficial translation reads "... in general if a user uses any type of item dupe cheat, he/she will most likely get instant permanent ban, there is no escape for this." Zero tolerance for people who choose to use cheats. Good to hear.

It sucks if you got temp banned when you were playing legitimately. The problem is if you did a large number of trades with someone who bought Gil you were probably figured to be part of the web. After a little investigation I'm sure the honest players will be unbanned. The harder and wider SE strike this time, the fewer times they'll need to do it in future, hopefully.

On topic - That's a huge sum of money.... May I suggest its ploughed into a casino in Costa Del Sol or similar location? I'd love to have a gamble now and again..
