Black mage quest locked out

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but for some reason my black mage quest ("Taking the Black") will not unlock. I have a level 31 thaumaturge, a level 15 arcanist, and a level 15 archer. In addition, I have completed all of the thaumaturge guild quests up to level 30 (at which point the next quest is locked because I am only 31). My understanding is based on my current qualifications the quest should unlock for me. Any ideas why it is still locked?

As a side note, when clicking on the npc it states "need ARC level 15." In addition, when I'm on my THM and I click on the tab to look at my other characters, nothing shows up except my 31 THM. It seems to me the game is not recognizing that I have these other 2 characters. Any ideas why not?

On your other characters? I hope you didn't level each class on a separate character... but for Black Mage it should be THM 30 / Archer 15 (tho having Arcanist 15 helps since BLM uses stuff from it too).

Your Lodestone profile just shows a level1 31 THM... hm...

If you didn't know after lv 10(?) you can switch your class simply changing your main weapon so you can become an archer on the fly equipping a bow while not engaged. FFXIV lets you manage multiple classes for a single char and you can even use some abilities from other classes after unlocking them.
Each class guild will give you the base weapon after completing their first quest to unlock the class.

ohhhhh. Ok that is the problem then! Sorry I had no idea. I came from MMO's where you couldn't do that. In addition, I never played the predecessor to this Final Fantasy MMO. Thanks for explaining it to me!
