    Continuous prompt to install DirectX

    Hey there,

I'm currently trying to install FFxiv on my father's computer. After downloading the game client and running the setup, it keeps prompting for him to install new directX files after selecting the language. We've allowed it to happen but after the files are added, it keeps prompting for more directX files (possibly the same ones). So far we've installed the files about 10 times and the prompt doesn't disappear until you cancel the client install.

He is running directX version 11, the same as my computer (which has installed the game perfectly). We are unable to install the launcher and hence start the download of the game itself.

Can anyone help us out? It would be greatly appreciated.

Might be the web installer for DirectX isn't putting down an older DLL the game is expecting to find. This was a common problem back when Vista was released. The solution was to get the offline package instead. You got to it by scrolling down the page and looking in the "finer print" section. Hopefully it is still there.

    Edit:
grr... they've revamped things again. I found a link for downloading the end-user runtimes though. It says June 2010 in the description, but it was updated in April 2011. It's about a 95MB download. Might install the file(s) you need:

Thank you so much for replying! We managed to figure it out. In the end there turned out to be something wrong with his d3dx9_43.dll file. The directX install was trying to create a new one but couldn't because it already existed hence the continuous install prompt. In the end it was solved by simply deleting the file and allowing the install to create a new .dll file. Installed and now the game works perfectly

Thank you so much for responding!
