Just to let everyone know the PS3 use SATA 1, so the speed is caped by the bus to 150 mb/s max. So when you look of a SSD don't buy a really good one that it have speeds of 500mb/s. It will perform the same as a lower end counterpart. The main part of SSD vs normal hard drives is almost having zero the seek time.alright, thanks.

Thats all.
It's a great upgrade for the ps3, if not the only thing you can change.
I'm the Princess of the Night~~
Are there ways to transfer files from the old HD to the new SSD or do I need to download the game again and start from scratch? It isn't a huge deal but I am kind of curious what others are doing.
The PS3 has a system backup utility.
Check it out.
As to whether or not this will make it so you don't have to download and reinstall the client, I dunno. I'd imagine so, since the client is tied to your PSN account and not the local hardware. But I could be wrong.
You're right, it's the registered PSN that controls accessibility, not the individual installs. That said, backing up serves more that just easing transitions, it's also one of two ways to back up those pesky copy-protected save files that game developers seem to think people want (the other being to use PS+ online copy system, which is just as annoying. Can't download a file until 24 hours after upload, nonsense).
I've been wanting to do this for a couple of months now. Good to see so many success stories. I was on the fence about it because of the PS4 coming out soon, but I plan on keeping and using the PS3 well after the next-gen launch, so a little upgrade sounds like a sound investment.
I have the super slim ps3.
It has helped me but I do plan on going to the ps4 version when it becomes available next year
