    Quick materia stat cap question

So just a quick question about materia melding. In v1.0 i could just attach as many int. materia to a piece of gear as I wanted. Now i see there is a cap for stats that a piece of gear will allow. How do I find out the stat cap for a piece of gear before I meld and waste a piece of materia on it then to find out it didn't do anything? Thanks for any help.

    You don't.

Sadly, this is one of the most insane quality of life improvements I've yet to see SE touch base on. the only way to PERSONALLY learn the caps is to level every single craft to 50 so you can attempt to meld every item you want to test on, then add materia till you hit cap. It's an incredibly poorly designed upgrade system and I'm shocked SE thought it was ready to be released.

That being said, the only way people figure stuff out is by trial and error. Also, some people have taken the liberty to post on the comments section of items at xivdb.com indicating the stat caps. Other than that, there is no way to tell.

I agree. It would be really nice to see an item's stat budget when melding materia.

Wow that's terrible news. I appreciate the response though darkm0d. Is there any way to take a piece of materia out of a piece of gear? Even if it destroys the piece of materia it would be nice not to have a wasted slot that could be used for something useful.

Yeah. The goblin that's involved with all things Materia offers that service (I think). I've never done it. I know it's possible though, you WILL lose your Materia. It's a really safe bet though, when thinking about caps, (excluding crafting gear too) the stats you see are already capped.

You'll see Icewing has already take the liberty to give us HQ stat caps. Sadly, you can't even add any DEX to that. I think the only viable options would be to add Skill Speed and Critical Hit Rate.

So if I'm playing as THM and all my gear has added int. stat, I'm unable to add int. materia to my gear? What would be the point of having int. materia at all if i'm unable to use it and get a stat boost from it? It just kind of puzzle's me. Same goes for Str on glad. If all someones gear already has str stats boosoted they cant make use of any str materia? It just doesn't make any sense.

yeah, melding materia is kind of gambling
we won't know if certain stats will be capped before we try to meld it

Anyone can know the stat caps on any item ahead of time if they know the item level budgeting, stat weights, and how the general system works.

For example, for any given item level 70 accessory, most ratings (crit, accuracy, speed) cap out at 12, while the more expensive ratings cap out at 8 (determination) and 6 (piety). Base stat caps at 9, while Vitality (which is a little cheaper) caps at 10.
