How in the world do you gain Gil?

I am a miner level 11 and have 2 50s. I have thought about not gearing my 50s and buying peacock ore for gil and farming shards all day long.

Does anyone thing these are effective methods or should I be trying something else?

Check the Market to see what sells well from your DoL/H class. Not the best way to make money, but if you see what is in demand and you can provide, youll make something of it. The higher your class, the rarer the items and thus the more they sell!
Also, if you have a conjurer. Try to get paid for raises in the open field . Just a few gill, but everything makes a difference!

Hmm so leveling my miner higher = more rare materials? Well then what do you recommend? So far I am collecting Copper Sand instead of shards.

I don't charge for rezes I am that type of guy

I know Ifrit gives you about 200 Gill each bout, Allagan Tin/Bronze pieces from dungeons, level quest give an ok amount of gill.

One thing what I find useful is selling items on the market but not for the high princess what some people ask. I've seen about Battle Dance Materia III for 36K, but then I saw one being sold for 10K and of course a big 20K difference and I brought the 10K one straight off.

    Seriously?

Thundaga you could run leves in mor dhona and sell the drops, or the leves in camp blue frog which drop rings which sell for about 2k each.
I'm levelling fisher atm which seems to bring in a decent about of gil.

I try to limit my need for money. The less you spend, the less you need, the less you need to make. After all, what do you need gil for?

Equipment? -- This is an infrequent purchase, plus the 'best' equipment, sadly, is dropped in dungeons/primals or bought with tome.
Transport? -- Chocobo or Porter and hold back on teleporting everywhere. Set 'smart' discount points and return points.
Food? -- This is legitimate, but how much food does one need? Can one get buy with food money from money drops from dungeons?

Please let me know if I've missed an important expense. So far I've gone from 1-48 on gil I earned from the main story line quests, and a few side quests/fates. And as I approach 'end game' I know the big gear is from tomes, so does not need money.

I also thought about leves and the gil payout is small and does not seem like they are worth doing. I have A LOT of materia and I am just waiting to sell them. Just hmm...

The easiest way to make gil is to use philosophy to buy coke. 150 for each and they sell for about 40k. But this is only recommended if you have full darklight already on your main class.

Leves is a decent way to make money. Do the level 45 ones that give equipment and sell the equipment for a few thousand. I did this until I leveled my goldsmith to 50. Now I can easily make level 50 HQ items and sell them for 5k+

easiest way for me is to take my lv50 on spiritbinding spree in dungeons. put in as many ilv55 gear, while still remaining a good asset to your team, that you can in your slots and spiritbond that. break it down into materia for a chance of geting IV materia. this sells very high.
    at least for now.

sell materia, prositute, sell meld, prositute bla bla bla

just kidding, Spirit bound, sell crystal & materials are the best income you can get atm, small but solid and guarantee compare to the tome mats.

Edit (add) : sell HQ materials earn much more if you willing to farm em and maybe make em and sell. And please dont sell 99 stacks, it is hell of annoying to buy, sell em as 10/20 or 30 max please, I always give up and go out to gather the mats myself everytime I see the stack of 99 sell when I really only need 10
