Turning down the detail settings should make the GPU work less so there would probably be less heat, but if you don't want to do that best you can do is make sure you existing cooling system is as dust free as possible and/or ambient air temperature is as low as possible and/or upgrade to a higher GPU (if possible, probably not if this is a laptop!) and/or upgrade the cooling system/replace fans.
