a tank who knows his stuff will cancel the regen before pulling.
but then, a tank who had the humility to learn won't blame you like a school kid either........
so it's better be safe than sorry and use regen sparringly xD after all, trash pulls shouldn't give you problems
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Healers generate enmity on 50% efficiency, and it's shared across multiple mobs.
For example, regen ticks for 348, that's 174 enmity generated. If 3 mobs are pulled, that 174 enmity is shared so each would only have 58 enmity.
Tank generates enmity on 300% efficiency, so for tank to pull off a 58 enmity regen tick on 3 mobs, he would have to do 20 dmg to each. Now I'm not sure how much enmity flash generates, but could it be less than 58 enmity? Now I'm sure as heck that shield lob doesn't do 19 damage at level 50...![]()
Yeah it would be ill advised to put it on before the pull, as these others have said, as then you are pulling aggro right away when you shouldn't be. Put it on once the tank already has threat. I may not be 50 yet, but I have played a healer in other games, and HoTs usually work the same way.
As a former tank, I wouldn't want it on there either.
Douleur Peur Mort
I specifically try to not use regen if the pull of mobs is almost dead because im scared tank will pull next group while regen still ticking and i will get all the hate. I def NEVER use regen on a tank before the pull is made. That is just asking for trouble.
I'm learning good stuff here too... I could be wrong, but I think in 1.0, regen gave you enmity when you first cast it and not on a per tick basis, so if you did it pre-pull you didn't have to worry about getting hate from that healing. That definitely makes it a little harder to use more effectively.
It seems silly to me though that it would generate enmity though if there is no actually effective healing done (tank at full HP). Can anyone confirm this? Working as intended?
I tend to forget about Regen on me, mostly because at 40, i still get WHMs who spam cure at me when Ive taken a sliver of damage and don't use Regen.
However, on the occasions i do get a WHM who uses Regen, I can get through an entire dungeon without losing any trash on a pull to them, because my pull 'rotation' is Tomahawk->Brutal Swing->Overpower->Flash->BB Combo.
Tomahawk tags them, the animation delay on Overpower means the mobs all reach my cone of effect by the time the animation lands the damage, Brutal Swing just keeps {1} locked up in case the DPS decide to get started early. There is never a chance for the mobs to get past me to the Healer.
Tanks who lose mobs on pull to Regen, and let them actually reach the healer, are tanks who don't know how to properly initiate a trash pack.
So many experienced healers! Thank you for contributing.![]()
Just don't cast regen right as the tank pulls a pack of mobs and you should be fine. Also don't overheal, we don't need to be at full hp all the time, only during certain situations like when we're about to take huge spike damage. I myself prefer a healer who assists with doing damage to mobs instead of just dancing around waiting to cast cure/physick every 10 seconds or so.
Remember, your job as a healer is not necessarily to keep the tank at full hp (unless the situation calls for it like titan's table flip and in coil) but to keep him alive throughout the whole fight.
A good rotation i go through is to Stone the tank in the beginning, which allows him to take a few hits while building aggro. next thing I do is use Cure II followed by another stoneskin and immediate regen. if you get the cure 3 crit, use it if the DPS are bunched and can use a group heal. Remember to always use Divine seal when possible to increase your healing. Presence of mind should be rarely used, only for situations where you need to heal a single target as rapid as possible.
