    the pins are made of plastic so try pulling them one by one perpendicularly using the handle to not damage them.
    I think it'd be best to let his friend do it because he's unfamiliar with computer hardware.

    ( By the way, you forgot to mention that he needs to remove the current thermal paste and re-apply. )
