Main quest benchmarks (spoilers)

The main quest line introduces you to important game mechanics like Airships and the Major cities, duty finder, Grand Companies etc.

Does anyone know of a list of what the main quest unlocks and when? It's hard to weigh the value of continuing the main quest versus leveling other classes or DoL DoH when you don't know what's unlocked when.

• Level 10 - Inn room, Guildleves, Class changing
• Level 15 - Airship access
• Level 17 - Retainer access (Thank you Niwashi)
• Level 19 - Materia converting
• Level 20 - Grand Company and Mounts

The value of the main quest is that many dungeons are locked behind it, including the entirety of the level 50 content with the exception of Wanderer's palace.

Regarding the level noted, do they refer to the quest level, player level or some mixture? I ask for two reasons. First, my Grand Company unlocked at 20 (but was 21 or 22) and my mount quest has yet to show up (issuance purchased but stablekeeper isn't interested). My company quest is still at the level 20 stage though (sylph-mangement).

I was listing the level listed on the quest, as best as I could remember. Some quests let you start/finish them while you are lower level, while some do not. I believe the GC quest is listed as L21 but can be completed at a lower level. I will correct it if it is wrong, I'll check when i get in-game later.

I was mostly curious about it being listed as one thing - as though the two things come together. After becoming a member of a Grand Company they've sent me off to another city on quests without any mention of a mount which wasn't what I was expecting. It's possible my character is bugged, but I haven't seen any option for in-game support so my best option at the moment is to just continue questing to see if it shows up.

You were right, the GC quest is at level 20. Corrected the mistake.

Did you start your chocobo quest from the NPC at the company itself?

i'm not sure if it's related to main quest
but to be able to summon your chocobo into battles, you have to take the level 30 quest in south shroud
your main quest will lead you there eventually
this is one of the most common questions in my LS, besides chocobo mount

Many helpful responses - THANKS! I will always keep up with the main quest as a advance. I've reached lv 25 Cnj, and am thinking about stopping at 30 (after unlocking choco battle) to level a couple other classes (Thm Acn) in the low level world that I've become familiar with, and confortable in.


All of my DoH are >20, but I'd like to see how it goes leveling them all to 35 before advancing my battle class past 30. It's been really nice to HQ every piece of equipment I can use

The quest giver for this is Docette in Camp Tranquil and it is called My Feisty Little Chocobo.
