Looks like Square is going to have to add them F2P servers they were talking about. They won't add them soon but maybe 8 months to a year they will.

Honestly, most MMOs made since WoW pretty much follow the same formula. Get to max level, get some gear, do end game content, get better gear, run out of stuff to do on one class, level another class, repeat. Not sure why people thought things would deviate much from this. People that rush through content because they feel they have to do it fast or be the first or whatever feel this impact much sooner than people who want to take their time and dabble with all the different things available to do in the game.
2.1 is adding a new dungeon, new raid, new difficulty levels for Primals, (I'm sure the appeal in doing this will wear off fast) Housing (the major gil/time sink for this patch) along with some other little things. People that play this game like a job will be complaining again in three weeks that they're bored while those who play less will be struggling to keep up with the current content. It's a never ending cycle.
What I read in these threads: "I want 5 years worth of content in the game less than a month after launch"
When WoW launched it had 2 raids, Onyxia and Molten Core.
Level cap at launch for FFXI was 50 and the rank 6 Shadow Lord fight was it for "endgame". World bosses were there, but no one could kill them at level 50. It took almost a year for Zilart to come out with some semblance of endgame content.
SWTOR only had one operation available at launch.
It might sound like I'm defending them, and maybe I am in some way, but I don't think people realize how much time these things take. Developing new content doesn't happen overnight, and while it may show that MMO makers haven't learned that people will play for 100 hours a week and burn through the content, it doesn't mean that they need to specifically cater to the people with nothing better to do.
Rift had 8 leveling dungeons, 8 "endgame" dungeons that were just harder versions of the other 8, and one raid (Greenscale's Blight) at launch. This was in March, and the next piece of endgame that came out was one raid in September. A full 6 months with one endgame raid.Rift was able to do very well for a year.
So basically what you are saying is, everyone wants to go play WoW because it has 11 years worth of content? If that is what people expect, why even bother developing a new game? You would spend 10 years developing content, release it all at once, and by that time, your game would be outdated and irrelevant. They have to start somewhere, and starting at the beginning is a good place to do it.

This kind of logic is why almost every MMO that has released since Wow has either died or went into obscurity. Why would people wait for one game to make a reasonable amount of content when another already has it? If they want to compete with Wow they need to keep the players busy with constant updates, something that Rift was able to do very well for a year. It doesn't have to be 2+ years worth of content on release, but having 1 instance and 1 poorly balanced raid for endgame is absurd.

Why do I want to play FF XIV with its "low" amount of content while FF XI have years of updates behind it ? Because I already did those years of content playing it for years and i want something new.

Pretty much this. This is not the first thread of its kind and I'm sure similar ones will pop up in the future as well. Complaining about a newly launched MMO not having enough content is like being unhappy that your new small business isn't making you a millionaire on day 1. You can complain, but it won't change the fact that these things take time to build up.
For the most part, the contents are more than enough to last an average player until the next patch/expansion. If you want to play a newly released MMO over any of the other dozens of established ones out there, and spend 18 hours a day burning through the contents, that's your choice. Just don't be surprised when you find yourself with nothing left to do and burned out.
2.1 is coming out within a couple of months. Nothing's enough for people anymore nowadays. This kind of logic is why almost every MMO that has released since Wow has either died or went into obscurity. So for two months we are supposed to only run one 4 man dungeon and or a raid with lock out timers? Sorry, that's pretty lean when compared to most MMOs these days. I would have expected to see at least 5 lvl 50 dungeons with HM versions: that would be more than enough things to do and keep people occupied. But 1 dungeon and 1 raid for 2+ months is not going to cut it, there should be more than that sorry to say. End game here is boiling down to: do AK enough times to cap mythos and then log off for the week. Is that really worth 15 bucks a month? Meh.

Clearly this game does not meet your expectations then. Nothing left to do but leave I suppose, sorry to say.So for two months we are supposed to only run one 4 man dungeon and or a raid with lock out timers? This is something people have brought up in every single mediocre MMO I have ever played over the past 30 years. Yes, maybe I should quit but do you really think SE wants that? I think they want this game to be successful instead of ending up in the F2P trash bin like most MMOs end up doing these days mostly to do with inferior/sub par end game. On the plus side there is indeed hope out there, GW2 is a good example of a company that seems to take their product very seriously and have the passion/dedication to go that extra mile. If it had trinity I would not even have tried FF 14 ARR so yea.![]()
