Shamelessly stealing this link from a poster on reddit. It's from XI in 2008 but it explains how the RMT special task force operate.

In particular it explains why they don't just ban the bots and shouters when they receive the reports, why people over a certain amount of Gil got caught (gilded tomb) and why so many got caught in one massive sweep. It's actually quite impressive.

Good shocking post to people without any background knowledge but i can gurantee you that their RMTPWNER 1337 does not exist in any kind of form they describe it. A tool like that would require such an incredible hardware behind it that i doubt they actually use something like it. Not to mention the queries alone would lag every server 24/7. They can maybe scan this stuff on backups or snapshots but even then a scan would take days to uncover a network.

According to that Lodestone news message, SE also banned people for using cheats, hacks, exploits, etc to do certain in-game things, like EXPLOIT TO GET PAST TURN 5!

Since that FC that beat turn 5 intentionally used an exploit to bug the boss, I guess we'll see very soon if those people got banned, too.

P.S.: sending a message to SE to NOT give you "World First Credit", isn't a means of attempting to avoid the ban hammer when you knowingly exploited your way to do the deed.

I heard people were getting banned because RMT was buying their goods in the AH. I hope that was just a nasty rumor with no truth behind it, but if it is true than I feel real sorry for anyone that got hit by that if they didn't deserve it.

Well if RMT buys your goods it usually means you bought gil and that is how they "delivered" it

So Im in a pretty large guild and we have been sending quite a bit of out gil to the Guild leader through the post to prepare for guild housing. Our Guild Leader then got a 72 hour ban for suspicious activity. Now it looks like all the Gil that was sent to him is going to be confiscated.

Fair? Guilty until proven innocent?
I can see quite a few disgruntled customers if this is happening to other guilds. I might take my ball and bat and go home. No you cant have my stuffs, I dontated it all to the guild, which was then taken.

I dont feel bad for people that bought gil, you broke the rules and you gotta deal with the punishment. I do feel bad for the legitimate Crafter/Seller who had something purchased from them with "Tainted" Gil from a player who bought the gil from the RMT guys. Stuff you put on the market place can be bought by anyone with enough gil to purchase said item (to my knowledge) and it sucks if these folks get banned because there products were purchased with RMT gil.

Think all their investigative efforts were focused on new worlds. Everyone I had to blacklist remain undeleted. I'm sure have started on legacy worlds to fish out the dirty gil and RMT/gil buyers by now.
