I just read the postscript notes. I don't know whether to be happy that SE may increase capacity by splitting existing worlds, or potentially to be angry that they may change our destination and not let us cancel the transfer:
With the introduction of the World Transfer Service, there may be cases where players are requested to transfer to other Worlds due to fluctuations in population. We may also consider the splitting or merger of Worlds. Because of this, there may be instances where players who have used the World Transfer Service are requested to move to a different World. Please note that in such cases, applications for World transfers cannot be canceled or refunded.

That is so typical of them, never a simple solution lol
So poorly managed lol.
SourceOnce service fees are instated for this service, characters transferring from another World will take priority in the event a character on the destination World has the same name but is associated with an inactive service account at the time of transfer.
I might loose my name just because I stop playing for a month or two is just wrong.
Sounds like it :\
Hello,
The details for the World Transfer Service have been announced on the Lodestone. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can read up on it here.
We will be accepting applications for free transfer between 10/15 and 10/21, so if you wish to transfer for free please be sure to utilize the service before the cut-off date.
As you might have noticed from those dates, we decided to extend the free period from the aforementioned five days to seven days.
Also, please note that if there is a character on the destination World with the same name as you, that person will have priority for keeping the name. However, in the future we will be making a change to this so the player who is active will have priority. We'll be making an announcement on this when the change occurs.

I am really angry. I pay for both FF11 *and* FF14. I have played FF11 for 11 years and paid *every single month without a single month off or break in charges*. I paid for FF14 1.0 CE, I currently pay for FF14 sub. Yet because SE stuck me on a Legacy server that I did NOT choose. I can't play with my 12 *real life* friends on Adamantoise or transfer. I am furious. I don't even have a level 50, but I spent enough time on this game now that I refuse to reroll and redo all my hard work.
I truly hope they realize how mad this makes a lot of Legacy server people in the same position as me. You can't stereotype us all into gilsellers or thinking we would mess up the economy.
The point of an MMO is to play with your friends. Now I can't play with any of mine and I am mad. And I will be triple ashamed of my 10+ years of loyalty to the online franchise if/when it becomes available I have to *pay* to transfer. This is ruining my entire game experience.
bayonne, why am I being punished for buying a PS3 version and ineligible for transferring when I've had an active account since the game was released?
Why do people use their economic past to justify their present concerns? I paid for FFXI for 11 years also. I don't feel like they should cater to me just because I paid them like everyone else in the game.
Regardless, clearly legacy > new world transfers would screw up the economy, and clearly people would take advantage of it. End of story. It may suck for you, but it's better for everyone else.
