I won't be paying for another month I'm stuck on a Legacy server, hopefully they get around to letting Legacy characters transfer before I completely lose interest.
That would be logical, therefor probably not going to happen...I'm still hoping that new ARR characters created on legacy worlds will be able to transfer to any world during this first 5-day-free period, with a gil limit of course. That wouldn't unbalance the destination world's economy or make it "spoiled" for people wanting only a "new" world ARR experience (e.g. no Goobbue mounts). Hopefully the official transfer instructions coming soon will make this clear.
As for v1 character transfers to new worlds being free or not, once SE allows it: they haven't said. Speaking only for myself, I'm ok with either.
No, it would be logical to not have them continuing to backhand the people that stuck with this game the longest by:
1. Probably waiting six months to a year to flip the switch letting us transfer.
2. Cutting our gil just like now, but because of #1 it wouldn't be even, it'd be hurting 1.0 characters that want to transfer.
3. Probably charging us for it (the service would have *technically* been up for six months+ then).
4. Touting it like SE has finally relieved our suffering by allowing this, when clearly they caused it.
That's the thing that bothers me most. If it really is to remedy the launch overcrowding situation where players were forced into random worlds, then why disregard the 2.0 players who had no choice but to be on a Legacy server? I just really hope these transfers at least encompass those newly-created characters, whether account status is legacy or not. I'm genuinely worried that even if they do let newly created characters transfer anywhere they want regardless of what server they're on that I would be doubly screwed because of my account being legacy--which frankly only means having Garlond Goggles, lol.

I think this is total bs I have been waiting to play with my friends on a diff server since it came out and I just selected the server I was on before and it was a legacy server but now I have to wait even longer and im not even super rich or super far ahead of my friends on a different world I think ill just shut down this game cause its really starting to get on my last nerve with the bs. I don't want to wait another month or what ever its going to take to be able to play with my friends and I shouldn't have to.
Can we please get a name change without having to abuse server transfers please?

It's because they need people to consider reasonably if they really need to be changing servers. if people do it all the time it can make RMT easier, and also can cause imbalance on the servers again and they will once again have people bitching about congestion and log in issues, and probably character creation restrictions again. it's to avoid allll that crap that players complain about, which is actually caused by players.I still don't get why this is something that will be charged outside of the monthly fee. I know they've been doing it this way since XI, but it doesn't make a lot of sense technically... it's not like they need to have a midget in a box doing transfers all day at minimum wage, it can be totally automated. Is it to discourage players from changing worlds, or is it just a gratuitous 'extra service' money grab?
Mentioning low population servers seems like a great way to keep people from going there. Unless I'm wrong about common opinions, most people like to have an active economy and people around to do things together in game (such as forming high end raiding, running fates, etc).
I'm kind of worried I'm on Malboro now, and considering moving to one of the more populated servers. The problem is, who knows what all the populations will be after the moving rampage.
