Ditto on this. I wasn't involved with the beta, was never offered a chance to transfer my character. I refuse to pay anything until i get to play with my friends. I am not re-rolling. There is literally no reason to have multiple characters in this game.
Good to hear that free transfers will be offered! I am not surprised about the Legacy/non-Legacy server limitation, but it is still disappointing. Hopefully they will allow it sooner than the original tentative estimate of 6 months.
Though it is kind of funny, if you think about what the notice says:
A benefit of transfers is that you can play with your friends.
Excalibur and Hyperion are really crowded (that is 2/4 US Legacy servers).
They warn there may be downsides to transferring to a really crowded server.
They suggest that groups of friends move to an uncrowded server.
Based on this, I conclude that friends who are separated across crowded US Legacy & non-Legacy servers should all move to Sargatanas or Balmung! (I'm teasing, mostly)
Really, Excalibur may be crowded but it is a fine server. I prefer things a bit quieter though so may give Masamune a try.
I have been playing on the "Legacy server" by myself through this whole time and waiting to transfer to my friends' world. I am really disappointed that after all this time, I still won't be able to join my friends.
Nice to know what realms are high population. Wish that information was in the server select screen, as well as the time zone it's in/nearest.
"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."
This is crazy...

Keep making a fuss over it and the devs will have to listen.
Seriously this is complete utter nonsense. Do they honestly think that all the Legacy servers are just going to become barren? I just don't see their doomsday scenario of a bunch of people moving to non-legacy servers and completely overtaking the economies of those servers happening - especially if they're capping the gil that can be transferred. I understand their concerns however it really does seem like a paranoid delusion at this point.
I just want to play with my real friends whom I'd badgered repeatedly about taking another look at this game before it came out. They bought it, LOVE IT, and just want to all play together. One of my friends has a kid on the way too, so it'd be nice to actually be able to play together before the little bundle of joy pops out and all his time is consumed by said child.
This really, really sucks and there's no verifiable justification for it. Supposing that some people do transfer over with a crapload of cobalt, electrum, twinthread or what have you - who's going to buy it? As is, a lot of the high level gear - even HQ versions - is dirt cheap on the Legacy servers because of the abundance of high level players. IIRC, the census @ GDC showed the number players with at least 1 class at 50 is double the average on Legacy servers over the others.
So again, you transfer over and.... you quickly find there aren't a whole lot of folks ready to buy the stuff you've been selling on the legacy servers. Worst case scenario a few people flood the markets with cheap HQ items for a while, big deal - I'd much rather be on a server where raw materials are actually worth something. Right now on Excalibur, Cobalt Ingots only go for 100 gil, it's ridiculous (Steel is crazy expensive for some bizarre reason).
Rather then complaining that you cant play with your friends because you are on a Legacy server, simply have them transfer to YOUR server. From what I have read though legacy servers can not transfer from a legacy server, standard servers can go TO legacy servers. Tell your friends to transfer to the Legacy server you are on during the 5 days of free transfers if it means that much to you.
Well, I'm starting to think we've hit the mystical "mid-september" again. Its the 7th of Oct and we still don't have a date.
I would prefer the Producer just bloody well say when it will happen, not give vague pronouncements about "early Oct" then "soon" which I imagine will become "Early nov" for which they will all be very sorry and apologise profusely to the players.
If we had a realistic timeframe from the onset, I would have just abandoned my character and started over again on the server my friends were on, but since we're playing follow the bread crumbs, I've been unlocking all the jobs, lvling up all the tradeskills and preping my guy to transfer. For almost a month and a half.
What the...? Think it through dude.Rather then complaining that you cant play with your friends because you are on a Legacy server, simply have them transfer to YOUR server. From what I have read though legacy servers can not transfer from a legacy server, standard servers can go TO legacy servers. Tell your friends to transfer to the Legacy server you are on during the 5 days of free transfers if it means that much to you.
It is unreasonable for ONE Legacy player to ask a GROUP of friends on a different server to give up and leave their established community and all up sticks just to join you. Not to mention that if every Legacy player asked their friends to do that, the already crowded Legacy servers would become even more congested.
