Little Ala Mhigo

I'm reaching the part in my story where I'm trying to gain the trust of Little Ala Mhigo, but I'm a little confused as to it's origin. After some wiki browsing, I was able to dig up some info on Ala Mhigo but can't seem to find anything on the origin of Little Ala Mhigo.

I guess the main thing I can't wrap my head around is if it is under Garlean control like Ala Mhigo? I mean, is it a colony of Ala Mhigo or what? Any clarification will help. And no spoilers please.

Little Ala Mihgo, from what I've gathered from reading the text from NPCs, is a settlement of refugees from Ala Mihgo.
These refugees did not wish to assimilate with the other nations and formed this settlement in the Southern Thanalan in order to keep their culture and way of life seperate and pure.
And Little Ala Mihgo is NOT under the control of the Garleans. Think of this place as a government in exile.

Skies is basically right - Little Ala Mhigo is nothing but a refugee camp where the refugees from the fall of Ala Mhigo ended up after Ul'dah refused them to settle inside the city - they basically had no choice. It was either settle there or die out in the wilderness.

In 1.0 most Ala Mhigans were treated with general contempt by Ul'dahns simply because they were poor (and this is further shown in ARR, although the refugees are more than just from Ala Mhigo now), and the Ala Mhigan refugees returned that spite with equal amounts of venom - even now the two societies do not get along (this was shown in the 1.0 GLA class quests).

Also, Ala Mhigo isn't abandoned - it was just sealed off from the rest of Eorzea by a huge wall after the Garlean Empire invaded and annexed the country following the brief civil war which toppled Ala Mhigo's last tyrannical king. The Garlean Empire then turned it into a fortress - in 1.0 it was stated as being one of the most heavily armed locations on Eorzea. It's Gaius's main base of operations also after all (he rules the country as it's Viceroy).

Additionally, Ala Mhigo was stated in 1.0 as being used for a convenient source of new troops for the Imperial Army - in 1.0 it was mentioned that when children came of a certain age they were taken from their parents and 'sent north into the Garlemald wastes, never to be seen again,' and an Echo vision clearly shows Garlean soldiers brainwashing Ala Mhigan children to zealously hate the Primals. In any event, it's definitely still inhabited, but no utopia by any means.

It's a refugee camp of people from Ala Mhigo who fled the Empire.
