The point of jobs?

What is the point exactly? Couldn't I just stay as a Lancer from 1-50? Is there any reason for me to be a Dragoon, or to advance as a Job at all?

Sure you could stay a lancer to 50 but Dragoon job gives you more actions (skills) and a bit of a boost in stats.

Also, I think the idea is in the future, other jobs with different actions will be available from the same starting class.

Big stat boost. And you get access to skills only available to the job. For instance, in your case, Jump.

Jobs get Exclusive gear and weapons that are (in some cases) far stronger then Class gear.
Relic weapons & Relic Armor (Referred to AF2 by the XIV community) is job exclusive.

Also eliminates the need to roll 1001 alts!

i think the most impt aspect is that you get job specific skills. for example, cnj doesnt get regen, but only whm does; mrd without war abilities is almost like anothet class; i believe jumps are drg-only (i could be wrong) etc
