I bought this game because this is the content I wanted to play. I'm assuming everyone else did, too.

I don't know what you mean. There is a Chinese and Korean language version of the PC/console version of FFXIV we play, with the brand new Mobile version that's already confirmed to be going global, eventually.

We haven't gotten it YET because of the bad taste Western Audiences (so most of us English speaking players) get when mobile gaming is mentioned. It was made for Chinese players first because, quite frankly, they're the audience most likely to get into it on a large scale verses us acting like it's a novel side project.

That's even if people get over the fact a second version of FFXIV exists that has a metric ton of QoL and UI upgrades from our version and stop assuming budget is being directly siphoned from our game.

I expect an update during the Fanfests regarding other localizations of mobile. My hope is it's that heavily implied Switch 2 port is actually the Mobile version.

I also find the heat against mobile games odd when you look at the markets in South Asia or South America. They never got to experience console or PC gaming on the same level as us if at all, and so gravitated towards mobile gaming, but still demand and expect high fidelity content just like we do. It's what everyone has access to.

They're the reason why FFXIV has a mobile remake and why we've not gotten it (yet). It's a different market but they still want good games.

The heat comes from the aggressive monetisation most mobile games use. I know they need to make money somehow and most mobile stuff is f2p, but the monetisation aspect in most mobile games is what puts me off.

Same. I've invested in several Square-Enix mobile games including Dimensions and the Mana game. I spend a lot of time (and sometimes cash) building up a fun experience. Then they shut down the servers.

Square-Enix should not be trusted with mobile games. They have a horrible track record.

The one free to play mobile game I played much of (outside the silly match three games) was an SE game. It was absurdly predatory and then it shut down out of the blue. Never again.

That's fair, actually. FFXIV Mobile is already showing signs of being a pretty gnarly example of F2P model monetization, but most players on the PC/Console version we're playing are griping so hard about all the exclusive glam stuff Mobile is getting, despite that being literally how they're making money. (All sorts of exclusive hairstyles and very fancy mounts are coming out at an incredible pace. And they're already deep into ARR's patches! Also, I think it has built in voice chat!?)

It's wacky how it has to work, but that's not just what's expected from gamers in certain parts of the world, they actually balk at subscription models like ours. The idea of being forced to pay something to play instead of a little here or a little there and exclusively get what they want seems like robbery.

And a lot of younger gamers that have cut their teeth on games released in the past decade often feel the same.

Yeah that's why I won't touch another Squeenix mobile game. They don't know what they're doing and they're never committed to their servers. They always cancel games and leave players confused.

This game isn't going to last another 10 years with these outdated, octagonal-shaped character models. It's 2026, get with the times SE, Roblox bodies are so 2006.
