IF instanced housing ever had to happen, they would need to keep all those players subscriptions up, just like they are doing right now with ward housing, if players decide to go down the instanced housing way instead of ward way, that's a potential sub loss if there is no auto demo, square is all about the money, you really think they'll just let people create and then let it rot there for years after years ?
While housing a big appeal in the game, it's not the only content the game offers. If you think they'll lose out on money because they implement instanced housing that doesn't have auto-demo, you're mistaken. They'll lose money from players not subscribing anymore when those players deem the game no longer fun or for other personal reasons. I myself went on a long hiatus at a time despite having a house because the content was too boring and repetitive and I lost a lot of friends who stopped playing due to IRL matters.

I understand why SE implemented the auto-demo because it isn't fair that plots are just sitting there not in use by players who just buy a house to brag about it and I feel that it is a good thing that they get cleared for other players who want to actively use it. But instanced housing that isn't auto-demoed is also nice for the players who have a life outside the game, who can't always afford their monthly subs or may not have the personal time to actively play compared to others. What about players who can't log on either due to natural disasters? Do you think the first thing on their mind is that they need to log on FFXIV? Sure, it takes a few minutes to log in and avoid your house from being auto-demoed, but personally I would enjoy the game better if I could have a house without the fear of losing something I worked hard for. I see it as being no different than an apartment apart from being able to decorate the outside. So if they don't auto-demo your apartment which is shared in a building with other players, why should they auto-demo an instanced house that's not being used by anyone other than yourself?

"It's not the only content the game offers". For some of us, it literally is. It's personally the only reason I started the game to begin with and now I haven't actually played in a couple years because I can't enjoy the content I want to. My carrot-on-the-stick for playing is getting a large house. Without a chance to get the carrot, and constantly being taunted by it, I have absolutely no incentive to do anything in the game besides logging in to lose lotteries. I'll be here trying to get a large until they shut off the servers.

Exactly why you shouldn't let your sub lapse.... Even if the game isnt fun for you anymore, are you willing to accept the loss of something you put time and effort into that you may not have access to for months if not potentially years when you return?

I haven't gotten another medium since i left Brynildr in 2016 (R.I.P Mist Ward 7 Plot 42) currently i have 2 smalls (Mist,Ward 4 Plot 41 and 42). I cant have a setup like this anymore. So im not risking letting my sub lapse to lose a more so ideal setup to keep both houses. No matter the content drought, players with ward housing will likely keep their subscription active to keep their house.
