To let the group know I'm new to this fight/content? Seems pretty obvious, is it not?
There are some players who get upset if you don't get a mechanic after 1 day.

Short of the Windswept weapons from the new extreme trial (at i615), the new crafted weapon (at i610) is the best you can currently have; even the Dragonsong weapons are i605, same as the Asphodelos savage weapons, and the augmented Radiant weapons are only i600. There's no need to do the alliance raid to upgrade stuff from previous tier; that stuff is already "outdated".It's really my weapon that matters the most, and I don't have that. I never did the alliance raid, so I was unable to upgrade that. I wasn't actively playing the game when the alliance raid came out, and I am hesitant to go in and learn it with my outdated weapon, gear, and just learning it in general this late.
(I mean, I recommend running the alliance raid anyway because it's fun.)
I'll also note that Aglaia (the alliance raid) also has a minimum ilevel requirement of i565, which is basically the job artifact gear and, like, the Moonward accessories; if you have tomestone gear, even unaugmented, you're more than sufficiently equipped for Aglaia.
The Pandaemonium normal raid gear we have right now is i610, same as the crafted gear; in some cases the new normal raid gear may have better substats than the crafted stuff—notably the chest, which is piety-heavy for healers but has some tasty critical hit on the raid piece—but optimizing substats is really a game that only matters for the savage raid tier (and ultimates). In general, the main stats (e.g. mind, vitality et al) are far more important than the substats, and the crafted gear would be a straight upgrade for you.Normally, I'd just leave it until next expansion, or wait for the relic weapon. My gear is just tomestone, and that is just on my whm. Nothing augmented. Well, I can get better with the pandemonium raid gear, but that circles, again, around to my original gear being out of date.
I mean, anyone who gives half a damn about someone else's parses in normal and alliance raids is taking this game way too seriously.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

Because there are some players who expect others to have studied guides and watched videos before the patch is released (thanks, WoW) and to have also cleared the content in the first 2 hours of release.
It's really annoying to walk into a duty 6 hours after release just to have someone go "everyone knows what to do by now, right?" and then have to listen to them complain when they're the only one not doing it blind.
Yeah, without that extreme weapon I'm undergeared and I really do not feel like progging extreme. At least I can argue with myself that savage gear is unobtainable, with extreme, it's just me not wanting to deal with people, or put in the time to prog.Short of the Windswept weapons from the new extreme trial (at i615), the new crafted weapon (at i610) is the best you can currently have; even the Dragonsong weapons are i605, same as the Asphodelos savage weapons, and the augmented Radiant weapons are only i600. Yeah, I've been thinking about buying crafted gear, I usually do not do so, but I might have to if I want to do any relevant content. I don't like spending the gil, and I don't really do a lot of content where it's even necessary. I think my standards of being undergeared are a bit different than some others. I typically like to have my WHM up to date, and maybe my tank, for the dungeon achievement mount grind, and/or one DPS.
I don't like it anyway. It looks awful if I do bad, and even if I do fine, I have a trash weapon.
I prefer to learn content when it first comes out along with everyone else, so I am not a burden later on, and mistakes are generally accepted for the first few days.

if you want to do abbyssos, you can always go Barbie EX for your weapon. It's really my weapon that matters the most, and I don't have that. I also don't like that people will upload my performance along with theirs, and I won't hide it either, because that looks bad. It's a lose lose.
It's a fun chaotic fight. As chaotic as 14 can get probably.
and hey, the reaper weapon is cool :P
"I'm new" doesn't always make a difference though.
A good friend played 'The Fell Court of Troia' yesterday for the first time and noted in chat that it was his first run of it. He was caught off-guard a few times but said he did the best he could, and I know for a fact he's not a bad player (heck, he's better than me - but that isn't really saying much!). Anyway, at final boss he said he was KO'ed fairly early into the fight and one of the healers in the team made this delightful comment: "You can't remember mechanics, so you don't deserve raising when you die".
I guess I find that disgusting attitude offensive myself as I'm pretty terrible at memorising mechanics, but nonethless I do feel it takes a particular level of unpleasantness and arrogance to make comments like that and act that way.
I always say when I first time something because it makes people nicer![]()
