theres a very easy way to detect hackers without using an anti cheat: the battle log.
the game could parse the battle log or the packets and notice if there's something fishy. using a skill that shouldve been on cooldown? moving when you were stunned? etc.

it doesnt even have to be immediate either. if at the end of a match it detects something suspicious it could flag you. (yes, im aware of the cure ii bug, lets pretend it's fixed)

Square Enix wouldn't dare implement a system that would ban texture/model modders; that's 90% of their mogstation sales gone

They can fall back on the level/story skip potions RMT buys to farm. Might as well pick your poison at this point.

I don't even PVP, but this is really annoying. Are people that bad at playing that they need to resort to this?
I hope SE will drop the ban hammer soon, though I've heard that some cheaters have been around for years...

Yes this means UI mods, QOL mods, and literally anything that gives an advantage over a playstation user. That at the very least should be the baseline of non-tolerance.
I fully agree with this. XIV GMs should look at streamers and issue 7-14 day ban for first time violation and then permaban them for any future violations. And I mean look at any addons no matter how tiny they are. Chatbubbles, UI changes, ACT specially should be instabanned as it seems to be the one they can add more and more features to which gives players a big advantage in the game.
I keep seeing streamers like Preach, Pyromancer and other big ones openly play with these addons and nothing happens to them.
Some youtubers even make guides how to install and use addons which should be claimed and taken down from Youtube etc.

I almost welcome Square to install a software to check what I am using while I play XIV if that allows them to find all the cheaters in the game and get rid of them

    @OP I agree.

Fair gaming above everything, I don't want cheating in this game.

Those taking advantage of cheating tools are the most toxic of players making everyone else feel less skillful.

Producer Yoshida and the dev team must find a solution that stops all cheating without breaking the game.

Except modding means I can just give myself the paid cosmetics client side without ever paying for them. Surely it's more logical to remove modding in order to push people towards paid cosmetics.

Anti-Cheat programs never stop actual cheaters if they reeeeeally want to cheat, so, in the immortal words of a silvery-hued hedgehog: it's no use.

That seems incredibly excessive and does very little to actually address the problem of people cheating in PVP. People aren't using ACT and UI facelifts to cheat in PVP. Punishing people for the use of benign addons is just going to alienate a large portion of the playerbase for no reason.

Personally, I'd rather occasionally run into a cheater in PVP, roll my eyes, report them, and move on. Rather than my FFXIV client becoming an invasive piece of software that is peering into all the processes I am running.

i've never seen this happen in pretty much any game, and i significantly doubt any larger modding website would allow something like that to be hosted, it's a practically non existant boogeyman
