This is why I never have my tag visible. You'd be amazed at the amount of grief one can get just by equipping the crown even if you are nice.

I don't know why anyone would want to have a mentor crown in the first place, even to hide it. They really need to remove the rewards associated with that system as well.

I can't like this comment enough. Every person I've met and talked to, are only about the prestige of being a Mentor, or the Mount. Mentors rewards should be simply being happy in helping new players.
Unfortunately, it's much too late for that. If they change it there will likely be a lot of backlash about "taking out the only reason to become a mentor" - as I've been told by some of the more toxic "mentors" when I was running mentor roulette.

Maybe if people weren't self entitled jerks that snapped at people for any kind of unsolicited advice and just demanded to be carried thru content, the mentor system wouldn't need to have rewards but let's be honest here.
If Mentor roulette was replaced with a "Random" roulette that everyone had access to and would backfill any and all instances like current Mentor Roulette does with the only rewards being the same measly amount of Tombstones as it currently does, would anyone really be willing to subjugate themselves to it more than once or twice before never touching it again? I doubt it because it only takes 1 jerk to put it off of it and it's never only 1 but multiple.

Apologies, but not sure in how that relates to my agreeing with rewards being removed. If you have to be rewarded to help someone, you shouldn't be doing it. Especially when said system is exploited more for the rewards then the helping of others, making the mentors look worse in the process.Maybe if people weren't self entitled jerks that snapped at people for any kind of unsolicited advice and just demanded to be carried thru content, the mentor system wouldn't need to have rewards but let's be honest here.

I set up a practice party for SoS ex (I know it's older content, why should i need to practice, etc etc). We get two tanks, one that knows what's up and one that... kinda doesn't. I never really knock on anyone in practice content, bc like. It's practice content you're obviously not gonna be perfect.
But this tank... sometimes even when you know what you're getting yourself into, you don't. We tried setting up light parties for mechanics, we tried doing clock spots... they didn't know how to know where South was without waymarks. so we're over here telling everyone "ok DPS intercards, OT south, MT north, Heals E/W..." and he doesn't pipe up until we wipe a few times, saying he doesn't know how to figure out where south is.
I'm weirdly relieved that I'm done with the MSQ now because it means I don't have to burden people with my terrible performance in the last two Endwalker trial fights. I died so many times in both of them, I felt so bad. I'm just gonna go back to grinding out omni-crafter now.

I still want it to be a watering can instead of a crown so it's less about prestige and more about identifying someone who wants to help.

It doesn't matter if the symbol is a piece of shining poop, it's still an exclusive icon that not a lot of people have so players who want it for the prestige and not to be a good mentor would still seek it out.
When in doubt, don't be.
