Guess they can fix up apartments so that you can upgrade them to medium and large versions and then either let outdoor furniture to be used indoors or add a seperate outdoor zone for apt folks.

they can easily keep this old system and put instance version as option for players
just like apartment system but give player an empty island and let them build whatever they want
Swtor is pretty good example for this
people talk about how this game cares so much about players. They wouldn't have this miserable housing system for 10 years.

the mog store released and everyone raged out and their excuse for the mog store was to add more instanced housing zones, they never did this and Lord of the rings online is way way way older and uses the exact same housing system as ffxiv and they add more and more housing areas when they get full?Well you could be using the search function and you could find out from all other 1000 threads on this subject.
But tl dr is basically old engine, systems, servers and developers own view on housing is partially reason to why we don't have instanced housing.
I keep seeing people bringing up newer games done it a different way but it's not comparable when we got the sytem 8 years ago and not even sure it's technically feasable with the current engine. I mean we can't even get higher outdoor item limit or indoor.
The way to make it instanced (if they even want that) is a complete overhaul to both sytem and most likely the game engine that limits them in various ways.
The game can't expand dynamically due to hardware limitation (need more servers) so it more a question of maintenance costs, invest in new servers (which is nearly impossible right now due to semi-conductor shortages).
Just because the concept is the same that doesn't mean they both work the same way and can do the same things. Even in LOTRO when servers had huge populations they couldn't add more housing areas similar to XIVAlso how do you think the player amount compares to both of these games right now? I know Lord of the rings is available on multiple places but for example Steam shows average of 1000 players online.

Also LOTRO is F2P so you can log in without a sub and pay the housing weekly fee and up to i think 13 weeks in advance and even other people can pay your house rent for you if your offline. this is not tied to having a sub and losing the house it it runs out.Back in the day, housing in LOTRO did NOT go back on the market when people failed to pay the fees. The houses just stayed locked with an ever-increasing amount of back-fees that needed to be payed to open them up again.
Eventually (in 2013) that changed and houses did go back on the market after the fees had been unpaid for long enough, at which point a lot of houses belonging to people who had stopped playing became available again.

I played lotro since launch till maybe the last 2 years. i never had a problem getting a house. not once. I couldn't always get the exact spot i wanted but there was always at least houses free somewhere in multiple instances.Just because the concept is the same that doesn't mean they both work the same way and can do the same things. Not being able to get a house is one the biggest disappointments I have about this game.
Their housing system technology is what is limiting how many houses are available. They have separate servers just for housing. Maybe Island Sanctuary will give us some form of instanced housing. We will be able to place buildings, raise animals, let our minions go wild (if we want) and invite our friends to hang out.
Something I thought would be fun or interesting is if they added a feature to the Ironworks workshop in Mor Dhona where players could pay gil to commission building and later modifying/upgrading a personal or FC airship home which would essentially be the "instanced" housing since you wouldn't really have neighbors in the sky and just have the exit be a choice of which airship dock you want to appear at riding a small personal craft.

I really wish they would do this plus adding a place for Company Workshop access by house-less FCs.
