I wouldn't say it's an awful comparison in the context of the discussion. Either glamour is the most important thing ever, or it isn't. Not everybody embraces the glamour system for the sake of showing off to other players. Equally, not everybody cares to scrutinise what other players are doing with their character - and if they do, there's nothing wrong with them wanting no part of it if they find the fashion choices of another player to be jarring.
