All I can think of when I read through your post is "Greedy". "Well its your problem you missed your chance" Get a grip! its a freaking video game not life or death my god. Also I would LOVE if all old exclusives went on the mogstation.Yeah, talking about bs, what I just read there is totally bullshit. Being there since the begining, buying lots of side products and exclusive items, having 10 retainers, yeah, I can tell that I support SE. And when I get an exclusive item, I feel it should stay exclusive. Don't go back on your words. And just to say, the promotion was up for close to 8 month, RL issues can happens but if in 8 month you can't spare 30$, well it's your problem. You missed the chance. They have used the word exclusive items, they should have used "bonus item that you will be able to buy later anyway so there's no point to buy this right now" instead. It's maybe greed, but that's what exclusive means, and that's why I'm not happy with that. Or else, if they want to throw away the exclusivity, I still miss some items that I would like to have too, so why not releasing everything then? I means, I'm ok not getting them, but if they are to release some old exclusive to make money, just release everything then. Or don't release anything if they are not to do it for everything. You keep exclusivity or you don't.

I have a lot of the exclusive extras from fanfests, artbooks, and OSTs—I even own the Shiva statue and its emote—and I couldn’t care less if people were able to get them a couple years after their “exclusive period” on the cash shop. It doesn’t really bother me because I don’t put stock in virtual goods, and the “exclusives” weren’t really why I bought the product in the first place.Yeah, talking about bs, what I just read there is totally bullshit. The only thing having them really proves is that I had the money to shell out for them at the time—nothing else, really.

As I work in retail and thus believe in sincerity to my customers. Or basically anyone that had decent parenting.
If I promise them an item and use the incentive term "limited" or "exclusive", I mean it.
As customer on the other hand, I'd feel somewhat cheated when suddenly it's neither "limited" nor "exclusive".
To me, this is a personal standpoint. Nothing else. And I can understand the thread starter for that. Also not sure why that is called "greed" and is getting massive upvotes when it's not even about that.
To me it's more like SquareEnix is just selling their own words and principles of honesty over such things. Yes, I know, it's known and it's a business, but nonetheless a bad move when companies put their morals aside (basically lie to the customers when they add pressure to a purchase like these guys in front of nightclubs in Thailand) to get more revenue.
And no, do not say "in small print they say..." -- Exclusive is Exclusive, a very simple and fixed term. Period.
(Well, but what do I expect from dishonest sales jargon when even marriages are like that: When my parents divorced I learned that "Til death do as part" is apparently also not taken serious...)
Sincerely,

It's weird how people always say wanting things that were advertised as exclusive to remain exclusive is "greedy" or "entitled", but they don't say that about the people who want the exclusive items to stop being exclusive so they can have them.
You had 2 years to play with that toy. You still have that toy and that toy continues to be as useful/useless to you as it has always been.
But now the rest of us can buy our own instance of that toy and play and have fun with it too.
Objectively, your instance of that item has not changed, degraded or expired. Any subjective sense of devaluation is strictly a personal and self-inflicted issue.

I honestly just think having exclusives at all is bad period why can't everyone have the chance to have every piece of content/item if through in game or by mogstation? how does that hurt anyone else? it just seems so greedy to me that we have to have the haves and have nots bickering about online virtual goods when it could just be fixed by having it both accessible either through in game quests/grinding or mogstation.

The people who want the items to stay exclusive call those who would rather them not be “entitled” all the time whenever that topic pops up.

I remember when there was not a Mog Station lol. People kept on complaining on putting up fantasia for sell how they would gladly pay 20 dollars for one and such. I do miss some of the exclusivity of the items. But you are right its a huge cash grab for SE. Unfortunately I do not see them stopping. That is so funny thank you for the great laugh. I'm surprised you haven't figured it out by now Square Enix wants money more money. That should have been clearer when they added the laughable broken companion app. I would think that would have been noticeable when you go to the Mog Station and look at all of the different items available. I remember a few years ago when there was only one or two items in the Mog Station such as a vial of Fantasia maybe one or two mounts and a name Change option. Now I look at how much is in there and it is clear to me it is a giant cash grab for Square Enix. Personally I hope they stop doing this. But after all they are just copying what World of Warcraft did three years ago.

Back in my day, you had to use Fantasia to change your hairstyle XDI remember when there was not a Mog Station lol. Back then Fantasia's were account-bound, so every new character I make comes with a lot of fantasia's to play with

I disagree on keeping those items "exclusive forever" as well, because of the nature of digital items.
For physical items, there's a secondhand market. If I come in late to a fandom and really want an item that was sold five years ago as a limited edition, it's possible to track down a copy and purchase it from someone who no longer wants it.
Digital format changes that entirely. The items are account-locked and are lost forever if that player stops playing, or has their account banned.
Additionally, there's actually an expiry date on codes sold with physical products. I only found that out a few days before my lorebook minion would have been lost forever, even though I do own the item!
There should certainly be a long exclusivity period on this kind of thing - enough that people will decide it's worth preordering to get it now rather than years later - but forever is too harsh.
There are a few that are a bit similar for "adding long sleeves" to an outfit, but they're locked to specific classes, and often have gloves attached.
From memory:
- Lv50 Swan/Owl sleeves (WHM/AST from PVP, two versions of each)
- Lv60 Eikon cloth sleeves (some classes but not all, from marketboard)
- Lv60 Torrent Armguards (aiming/scouting, from Idyllshire poetics exchange)
- Lv60 Ironworks crafter sleeves (marketboard)
- Lv60/70 AST relic gear
I would love to have more items that alter sleeve shapes.
The tattoo is different, I think, because its specific purpose is to indicate that the character existed in 1.0. It's a subtle difference from being an item that you could only acquire from an event in 1.0, but I would see it as a difference nevertheless. At the end of the day what's stopping you from putting up the rest of the exclusive collection? Where's the Fat White Chocobo whistle? Where's the cloud mount? Hell, why don't you sell us the shoulder tattoo that only characters created pre-2.0 have? It's just glamour, right?
I think the bigger obstacle to it being useful is that it's an all-in-one dress, when it so easily could have been divided into a top and skirt.
The skirt with the flower embroidery is lovely, and could be used for a lot of outfits.
